Fiona was born in the town of Rugby, situated in the midlands, England, to Joyce Busby and James Murphy and raised alongside her beloved siblings Allan, Jonathan, Charmaine and Ruth. Fiona earned her teaching degree from Warwick university and became a dedicated teacher, working in Kuwait, London, Jakarta, the USA and Doha. It was in Jakarta where she met her husband Steve, whom she was married to for 36 years. Over the years, Fiona and Steve and their two children Spencer and Eleanor lived in many places – New Jersey, Tokyo, Doha, Warwickshire, and Rome – before settling in The Woodlands, Texas where they have lived since 2006. Fiona was also close to Steve’s daughter Nadia, who currently lives in California. Fiona made many lifelong friends during their travels, as well as keeping in touch and regularly seeing her friends from school and university. Fiona was very interested and involved with her community doing a lot of work for the John Cooper fine arts society, the Woodlands British Ladies Club and golf group, as well as volunteering for charities including Meals on Wheels. Fiona was an avid walker, enjoying the nature trails in the Woodlands and the UK countryside, particularly Brinklow, Grandborough and Napton-on-the-hill near Rugby, the Cotswolds and the Peak District. Fiona was well known for her smart wit, intelligence, passion for politics (perhaps too passionate!), and love for art and music. Her dedication to her friends and family was paramount, and she will be missed greatly across the globe.
Fiona is survived by her husband Steve, her children Spencer and Eleanor, Nadia, her siblings Allan, Jonathan, Charmaine, Ruth and Margaret, and her beloved nieces and nephews and their children. We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to all of Fiona’s family and friends that have visited her and shown their support with messages and kind words during this difficult past year. We take comfort in the knowledge that Fiona is now at rest and enjoying a large glass of sauvignon blanc in peace.
Fiona was a dedicated supporter of Montgomery County Meals on Wheels for many years. In her honor, donations may be made to the organization with this link. https://www.mowmc.org/
