George was born on July 16, 1950 in Houston, TX to Martín and Josefina Sanchez.
He married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Galvan, on February 10, 1968 and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School the same year.
George began a long-term career with Entex (now CenterPoint Energy) in 1977 and retired in 2007 after 30 years of service. George spent the next couple of years enjoying retirement life, but true to his nature, he soon tired of not having any work to do. In 2009, George turned one of his hobbies into his own business, Total Home Care, and spent the next 11 years servicing homes in The Woodlands and surrounding areas.
George was also a proud member of the Pan-American Golf Association where he made lasting friendships and won numerous awards and trophies over the years, the most notable being in 2017 when he placed 1st overall in the Seniors division. George had a passion for traveling with his family, bowling, supporting his kids and grandkids in sports and extracurriculars, and taking the scenic route whenever he had the chance.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Soledad Alvarez.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Dolores Alvarez; daughter Veronica Perez (Jesus Perez); son George Alvarez, Jr. (Celeste Alvarez); three grandchildren Gabriela Perez, Layla Rodriguez, George Alvarez III; one sister, Mary Alvarez; two nieces Mirella DeLeon, Milly Martinez; and one nephew Oscar DeLeon.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. The viewing will be held at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, November 17, 2020. Interment and holy rosary to follow at 2:00 PM.
