

A memorial service will be held at Coldspring United Methodist Church, at 11.00 a.m. on Thursday, December 20th, 2012 with Reverend David Green officiating. Burial will be at The National Cemetery Houston, at 11:00 am on Friday, December 28th. Larry was born October 3rd, 1934 in Wichita Falls, TX to Lawrence M. and Esta Ruth (Donehoo) Godfrey. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1952 and from the University of Texas in 1957 with honors in Physics. He went on to complete a Masters degree in Mathematics from Southern Methodist University. On August 8th, 1959 he married Dorothy “Lynn” Davis in Shreveport, Louisiana. Larry was a geophysicist with G.S.I. for twenty-three years. During his time with G.S.I., he was the area geophysicist for Canada and Latin America. He and his family moved to the UK for five years where he travelled extensively to the Middle East and Northern Europe. His later work as a geophysical consultant took him to Japan, Russia and Southeast Asia. He joined the United States Navy in 1957 and attended Flight School in Pensacola, FL. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserve and retired with the rank of Captain in 1989. He was an avid tennis player, and enjoyed reading and watching Texas Longhorn football. He was an active member of the Coldspring community, serving on several boards in San Jacinto County. Lawrence is survived by his two daughters, Allyson Caulder and her husband Michael of Lancaster TX, Claire Schlesser and her husband Thomas of New York, NY, his son, Christopher Godfrey of Austin, TX, his grandchild Emily Caulder several cousins and nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Michael Caulder, Christopher Godfrey, Thomas W. Davis, Thomas Schlesser, Frank Closs and Leo Burditt. Honorary pallbearers include Dick Conroy, Ron Weaver, Earl Wisler, Dave Agarwal, Reese Lockett, Joe Ledford, Ralph DeShong, Brad Armintor, Brett Armintor, John M. Davis and Thomas Davis.
