Leslie was preceded in death by her father, Nat H. MacKevett of Bakersfield, CA and is survived by her husband Robert of The Woodlands, Texas, her mother, Maureen Kelly MacKevett of Tomball, Texas (formerly of Bakersfield, CA), brother Douglas MacKevett, his wife Cecile Hodel MacKevett and niece Karin of Escholzmatt, Switzerland, half sister, Paula York of LaBelle, Florida and numerous relatives, extended family and friends from Bakersfield, CA, Louisiana, Texas and across multiple other States.
Leslie was born in Ely, Nevada on December 7, 1960 to Nat H. MacKevett and Maureen Kelly MacKevett. Leslie was married to Robert M. Hooper of Lake Charles, LA on May 1, 1993 in Houston, Texas. While she had no children of her own, she was the ever-attentive and consummate mother to her many “fur-babies”, throughout her life, which she loved with unending abandon as only a mother can do. Leslie was cherished and loved dearly by her husband Robert, mother Kelly, her brother Douglas, his wife Cecile' and her niece Karin, half-sister Paula, and step children Kenneth Hooper, Allison Hooper Dumoit and her husband Garrett and her twin step-granddaughters, Addison and Sydney Dumoit.
Leslie spent her early formative life and school years in Ely, Nevada; Long Beach, CA; Farmington, New Mexico; New Orleans, Louisiana; Denver, Colorado and Houston, Texas. She was a graduate of Spring High School and attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Leslie remained in Houston after college, making it her home, when her mother and father moved back to Bakersfield, California in the early 1980's. She followed her father's footsteps in the Oil & Gas Industry, establishing her career in Oil & Gas production analysis and accounting over a 35+ year period with multiple companies, where she made many dearly loved, life-long friends in the industry.
Leslie was an avid reader and enjoyed the outdoors: fishing, camping, road trips and traveling. She loved nature, the crackling of a camp fire, her “fur-babies”, the sun and surf and every beach and tropical destination from Hawaii, St. Thomas, USVI to Belize were no stranger to her. She loved spending vacation time with her mother and family along the California Coast from Laguna Beach to Big Sur, Carmel and Bodega Bay. She loved visiting Lake Tahoe with friends, visiting her brother and his family in Switzerland, and spending time in the Cathedral of Giant Sequoias in California's Kings Canyon, visiting the “Nature Dome” in Three Rivers, California and relaxing in God's creation from Hawaii and Sedona to the Great Smokey Mountains. She loved her family and friends with a passion. She was a devoted wife and fierce advocate and supporter of her friends and family. She enjoyed celebrating life with laughter and the occasional glass of fine wine.
We will forever be grateful to the loving, kind and attentive caretakers that saw to Leslie's needs during her valiant and brave fight over the 10 months preceding her passing. Kay Williams (primary long-term caretaker), assisted by Julie Garvin and Anita O'Boyle and of course Leslie's mother, Kelly. These beautiful ladies assisted with helping make sure Leslie was able to make doctor appointments, served as discerners of lab and procedure reports, asked pertinent questions of doctors along with her husband (who served as a constant, pro-active advocate with hospital, doctors and insurance companies). These wonderful souls provided all manner of comfort and sacrificed time away from their own careers, families and other personal obligations, to selflessly spend time with her, while Leslie was undergoing treatments, surgery and recovery during her hospital stays. All three of these incredible women were the closest and most-dedicated of life-long friends to her. She considered these dear friends as sisters.
There are no words to describe how much she will be missed. Her passion for life, nature, family and friends will always be in our minds, hearts and spirits. We all look forward to the day when we will be reunited with her in the presence of God our Father, His Son Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit, with all the angels, saints, family and friends in our eternal home.
We are all thankful for the love, friendship, dedication and joy she brought to all our lives.
