She and her identical twin sister were born in Davenport Iowa on August 6, 1933, to parents Harvey and Alta Roehlk.
At the height of the Great Depression, Mardell began her life growing up on a farm well outside of the city center. She attended local schools and was a 1950 graduate of Davenport High School. Shortly thereafter, she met and married her husband Thomas F Greenan in 1953. They shared a full life together for over 52 years until his passing in 2005.
They lived as a young couple for a brief time in Chicago, IL, until moving to Dallas, TX where they began raising a family. Mardell made many friends in Dallas that bloomed into rare lifelong connections, even after pulling up stakes and relocating to Houston, TX where Tom and she started an electrical sign business in 1972. They grew the business over time, with Mardell taking over the office management and bookkeeping for several years while raising three boys and a girl.
Throughout her life, what gave Mardell happiness and purpose was her family. She took great pleasure in being a wonderful mother and homemaker to her children. She loved all holidays, her trunk was always known to have a gift or two in it, and Sundays were family days spent at the dinner table or by the BBQ and pool. She had a passion for her family, her friends, and later in life traveling the world on cruise ships. Walden on Lake Conroe eventually became home. In retirement, she volunteered on the breakfast committee at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a member of The Assistance League of Montgomery County.
Mardell is survived by her four children: Tommy Greenan (Donna), Terry Greenan (Karen), Sharon Coker (Ron), and Shawn Greenan (Christie). Mardell was blessed with nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Marlene Selhost and brother Dennis Roehlk; and survived by sister Corine Peters.
A private Celebration of Life will be held on March 3, 2023 for her dear family and friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.forestparkthewoodlands.com for the Greenan family.
