Bob,
I miss you a lot my friend & Thank You for all our conversations. It's been rare for me meeting someone with certain similarities  you're 5 days older than me, I've been married 8 months longer to the same lady as you have been, 4 children vs my 3 & work scenarios we could relate to. Seen you for few years at WW but only really started talking for a year. Always ended our discussions about family & life with Thanks for the great talk or great conversation, always mutually beneficial. So my last time with you was great as always & ended sharing how we both enjoyed our conversation. Had no idea it was to be the last on earth, truly miss you, been talking some still to you but it's one sided. Sure wish God had allowed you to get that house in Savannah's Historic District & live with your Lady enjoying all the things you described doing with her from sitting on the porch swing drinking wine, watching people go by in the street, walking & finding favorite Cafes & Restaurants & meeting new people. You know I'm going with family at end of August for a week & I am sure to see people doing the above & no doubt will bring a tear to my eye as I think & wish that they were you & Lynn. I know your Lady & family are hurting a million times more than me for they have a million more times of being with you. I was very saddened to hear of the devastating loss of your brother, husband and father - my condolences to all of you.

My childhood and early adulthood ran in parallel to Bobby's - kindred spirits in many ways. His Dad - Uncle Alan to me - took us swimming on Friday nights and as we splashed about in the shallow end of the pool we eventually moved from sinking to swimming widths and then lengths of the pool (and bravely for 5 and 7 year old boys jumping off the top diving board - much to the shock of my mum - Bobby's aunt). We both went to family gatherings and listened to the same stories and songs by aunts and uncles (I'm hoping one of those songs is played at his Memorial Service). The competitive Bennett streak was formed playing family rounders at Gartness - not a clue who won but it was fun for both of us. We cheered for the same football teams and kicked many a ball against a wall practicing passing and receiving. 

Bobby was strong academically, through Clarkston and Caldervale schools and onwards to Strathclyde University where we both coincidentally studied civil engineering. Around this same time Bobby introduced me to Lynn and we would meet on the occasional Saturday night in the Staging Post - music, beer and the infamous chicken in a basket.

Lives diverged from there but the parallels continued. We both formed careers in oil and gas and whilst never in the same city I always had a sense of where Bobby was based. Meetings with Baker Hughes always had the question, 'Do you know Bob Bennett?' Invariably the answer was 'Yes' and a conversation would ensue on what he was doing and where he was. Unfortunately professional paths never crossed and geographically we only got as close as one in Houston, the other in Calgary. Sadly the question can no longer be asked nor will our professional paths cross.

To all of you, I wish you strength in the coming days, weeks, months and beyond. A good man has gone too early. Just like his Dad.

Lynn, we're so sorry to hear about Bob's passing. He was indeed a great man. He was such a joy to play football with and I very much enjoyed our usual banter during and after the games. He was a great player but more importantly a great person, Husband and Father who so often doted on his children. I'm glad I had the opportunity to have a lengthy conversation with him at a cross country meet not too long ago. Beaming proudly to see his daughter run. Playing football with him and Stephen as a teenager was also a very memorable time. How proud he was. I will cherish the time spent discussing a whole host of topics with him. He was a great man. It's difficult to comprehend the fact that Bob is no longer with us. You have lost a wonderful husband and doting father and I have lost a soul mate and great friend.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Bob's passing. He was a great supporter and friend to all at the Hughes Belfast manufacturing plant. I think he found many kindred spirits there. I traveled with Bob on a few occasions to the Middle East and my lasting memories are of tough meetings during the day and then laughing so hard about the day's events afterwards that we couldn't speak. We enjoyed many beers together and I thought of him as a friend as well as a colleague. He won't be forgotten.

Dear Lynn,
I remember the first time I met Bob. Nigel brought him along to a football match at Kincardine O Neil. He soon established himself as one of the regular Friday night footballing fraternity. We had many a good "sessions" in Scott Skinners analysing our game earlier that evening.  Bob was always very cheerful; he would make us all laugh with his good humour and wit. I shall always remember his happy cheerful, smiley face when I think of him. Take time to grieve, but remember always, the happy years both you and your family have had with him - cherish them forever.
