

William (“Bill”) Marion Rogers of The Woodlands, Texas passed away peacefully at his home, with his wife and daughter Suzi at his side, on March 11, 2015 at the age of 92. Bill is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Lilyan Goode Rogers, his daughters Sherry Johnson (Don) of Houston and Suzi Thrall (Jeff) of Flossmoor, Illinois. He is also survived by his grandchildren Stephen Johnson (Lisa) and Kevin Johnson of Houston, Jennifer Thrall Mosley (Kevin) and J.T Thrall of Chicago and by two great grandsons, Barrett and Jack Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Terry and Elnora Riley Rogers, his brother Norman and sisters Lois Hensley and Marie Rabby.
Lilyan’s sister Mary Northcutt and family and Lilyan’s additional family--- in the USA, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, the UK and Australia--- also mourn his passing.
Bill was born in Cleburne, Texas, the youngest of four children. After graduating from Jefferson Davis High School in Houston, Bill joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1941 to1945. After leaving the military, he joined Tennessee Gas Transmission Company in 1945, which later became Tenneco, and retired in 1986 after having served in a number of positions in the Pipeline Division including Vice President of planning and Vice President of Canadian Operations. While at Tenneco, he also completed an Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. During his working years, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing in South Texas and Canada with colleagues and he also enjoyed playing golf.
After retirement, Bill and Lilyan travelled extensively, spending considerable time in the province of Limburg in The Netherlands where they also had a home. Their travels took them to many parts of the world including Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, Fiji, North Africa, the Middle East, Great Britain and many other parts of Europe. They enjoyed cruises including a transatlantic voyage from Barcelona to Texas as well as cruising in the Caribbean. Bill was an avid reader and he also enjoyed word puzzles (especially Suduko) and games (especially Rummykub). Bill’s subtle humor, his patience, his kind words and his warm and deeply caring ways will be sorely missed.
Interment will be at Houston National Cemetery on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 12:30pm. There will be a memorial gathering at a later date. The family would like to thank St. Luke’s of The Woodlands as well as Heart to Heart Hospice for their providing Bill with kind special care during his final illness.
