
December 12, 2010. Age 80 years. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis (nee Nelson), his daughter, Karen (Joe ) King, grandchildren, Andrew and Ashley Luczak and Evan Hart-King. Preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Glenn and Richard. Survived by his sisters, Nancy Olszewski and Karen (Jerry) Bruckbauer, both of TX. Also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Don served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee under the G.I. bill, graduating in 1959. Co-founder of the UW-M Korean Veterans Club. After completing various job experiences in Milwaukee, Iowa and Illinois, Don returned to work for the City of Milwaukee for 22 years as a member of Mayor Henry Maier's staff, specializing in urban renewal and community development projects. After retiring in 1988, Don was an active docent at the Milwaukee Public Museum, primarily giving tours to school age students. He also took up freelance writing and participated for 22 years in a writers group under the guidance of Filomena Lea. Don also assumed an active leadership role in many Lutheran Churches in the Milwaukee area, most recently at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church-Freistadt.
The family would like to thank Aurora VNA Zilber Family Hospice for the wonderful, compassionate care they provided to Don during the final weeks of his life.
Visitation Saturday, December 18 from 9:30-11:30 AM at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church-Freistadt, 10729 W. Freistadt Rd. Funeral Service to follow at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church-Freistadt or Aurora VNA Zilber Family Hospice.
