Earl Richard Hunt

Earl Richard Hunt went to be with the Lord on September 17, 20210. He spent the last few days of his life being cared for by Hospice of Davidson County. The staff there cared for him and his family with kindness and compassion. We all are so grateful to them for all they did.

Richard lived in Thomasville most of his life. He had worked in furniture, was a carpenter and roofer. He operated H&H Roofing Company before he retired.

He was an avid race fan. He spent some time building racing go-karts and even raced one himself. Engines he built often won. He also helped work on car engines that were raced at Caraway and Bowman Gray Raceways.

He loved the beach and camping. He would combine the two every chance he got. His favorite place to spend any long weekend was Carolina Beach, camping out. He loved to have family cookouts and was happiest when there was family around him.

Richard was a volunteer firefighter when he was younger for Pilot Fire Department. He was always proud of the time he was able to serve there.

Richard married Shirley Ann Hoover on July 25th 1954. After 56 years together, she was by his side when he passed away. They had three sons, Ricky Wayne Hunt, Roy Dale Hunt and Donald Ray Hunt Sr.

He was preceded in death by both parents, Early Ray Hunt and Bessie Hunt, and a much loved brother, James Ronnie Hunt.

Richard is survived by two brother, Raeford Hunt and Audrey, of Thomasville and Wayne Hunt of Silver Valley and two sisters, Patricia Johnson and Ralph of Thomasville and Rita Steed and Bob of Love Valley, NC.

Richard left eleven grandchildren: Eric Hunt, Angela Baker and Joshua Hunt, all of Louisville, Kentucky. Crystal Hunt of Charlotte, Kim Hunt, Joe Grant and Roy Grant of Thomasville. Sherry Pauley, Tonya Hernandez, Donald Ray Hunt Jr of Thomasville and Jill Hoult of High Point NC.

He had 16 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express the deep appreciation we feel for all the acts of kindness, visits, food, prayers and comfort that we have recieved. We are grateful.
