Mr. Maxie Lee Gainey, 64, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Maxie was born on October 6, 1953 in Rockingham, NC a son to the late Maxie Gainey and Lois Layton. He had worked at KAO Specialties and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Most of all, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Nicholas Gainey and brother, Richard Carroll Gainey.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene Byrd Gainey of the home; two sons, Maxie Lea Gainey and wife Erica and Johnny Ray Polson and wife Angie; two daughters, Angela Gainey Mayfield and husband Curtis and Crystal Gainey Thorpe and husband Johnny; six grandchildren, Zerrick, Antonio, Trey, Montrell, Kinsley, and Abby Mare Polson; five great grandchildren; three brothers, Danny Eugene Gainey, Michael Eugene Gainey, and John Wayne Bolton and wife Sissy; and three sisters, Sue Gainey Ingram and husband Jerry, Patricia Gale Gainey, and Francis Presnell.
A celebration of Maxie’s life will be held at 11 am Saturday, March 31, 2018 in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home with Rev. JR Huggart officiating. Burial will follow in the Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
