Alice Theresa Gariepy was born on January 3, 1937, in Toronto, Ontario, and passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at the age of 89. A beloved, devoted, and kind-hearted woman, Alice will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. She made her home in Eugenia, Ontario, where she was deeply cherished by her family, friends, and neighbours. For more than 30 years, she and her family were devoted members of St. Joseph Parish in Markdale. The parish became a true second home, offering a place of faith, friendship, and fellowship that meant so much to her throughout the years. She found great comfort and joy within the church community, which remains under the pastoral care of Reverend Grayson Hope.
Alice is lovingly remembered by her children: Anne (Lyle), Maureen (Trice), Louise, Cathy, and Jim (Jessica). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Joelle (Jacob), Taylor (Ricki), Emerson (Nicole), Micheal, Brandon, Tyler, Tanner, Brianna, and Kolby. A treasured great-grandmother to Milo, Theresa, Juliet, and John. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Her love for her family was unwavering, and nothing brought her greater joy than gathering everyone together.
She is also survived by her dear siblings: Joanne (Dave), Susan (Bruce), Jim (Pam), and Mary. Alice is now reunited in heaven with her daughter, Theresa; her son, Johnny; her parents, Lillian and William; and her brothers, Terry and Paul.
Alice will be fondly remembered as a loving mother and devoted wife of 65 years to John. Her life was guided by her deep faith. For many years, she worshipped faithfully at Blessed Trinity Church. Her generous spirit was reflected in her many years of volunteer service, including 25 devoted years at St. Michael’s Hospital and her involvement with The Royal Conservatory of Music. She was also an active and dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League at Blessed Trinity, always giving freely of her time and compassion to others.
Alice was a wonderful cook and baker, and her kitchen was often the heart of lively family gatherings filled with laughter and love. She enjoyed many activities throughout her life, including curling, bowling, skiing, and golf. An avid reader, she delighted in sharing her favourite books with those she loved.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Health, especially the palliative care team, for their kindness and exceptional care.
Visitation will be held at Blessed Trinity Parish, 3220 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, on February 28, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m., with a reception in the Church Hall thereafter.
