I continue to savor that last visit with you, Who knew it would be our last...

Mr A, I met a guy in Lagos a few days ago and I told him how and why I felt myself an indigene of Onitsha, remembering you and our youthful days. You did account well for the years you were given and I am thankful for that. Thankful for our friendship; thankful to have been bestman at your wedding to your sweetheart; thankful to have known a caring friend and dutiful brother; and mostly confident in the hope that we shall meet again, at the feet of ultimate love, the lover of our souls, where we will no longer cry for the pain of your sudden departure. Aloy nwannem, it has been six years but feels every bit like yesterday. Moving on has been very hard and slow. Oh! Still tons of things to share, unfinished businesses still pending. The very sweet memories are there but the nightmare of that awful day is also still very real. I think of you every morning as soon as I get in my car. Jo and I talked about you this past weekend. He says he has conversations with you all the time, behind his closed doors. I do too and sometimes not always behind closed doors.

Dear Aloy, My memory takes me back to my childhood in the 70s and you hanging out with my big cousin, Egbue Okwusogu.  Those coloured bongo trousers and waistcoats were cool! Your departure is an irreparable loss to your family and friends. May God give everyone the strength to pull through. May the void be filled with fond and evergreen memories of the love and times you shared.  May the knowledge that you found rest in the arms of the Lord bring peace and comfort to all who grieve. We can't question God and his ways, so I won't. You will always live in the heart of your loved ones. It was good to see you that Xmas of 2014 to relive our shared Xmas holidays in the 70s. Talking with you for several hours when you were in Ghana was refreshing. You taught me something. Never to procrastinate. Do what needs doing while you can and connect with people when you can. Especially old friends. We talked to Joe didn't we?  Continue to rest in perfect peace.

My dearest Aloy,everyone keeps telling me to let go, that time heals, that you are in a better place..., but I just can't heal. Believe me, I am really trying. I try to draw on my faith in God, in afterlife, but somehow, I still come up short. I remember our last few days together, Dec 23rd 2014 thru Jan 1st 2015. You arrived to a lot of merriment at my house. Justina and her family were visiting and we were all so happy and joyous. And very noisy, you said. I also remember our last conversation, evening of Jan 17th 2015, you just wouldn't get off the phone. Had I known that was your "goodbye", I would have gladly stayed. But just a few hours later, you were gone. I miss you so so much and it hurts real bad. I pray for your soul to find peace and joy with the Lord and I pray for healing for me. May the Lord shine His light on you and keep you in his arms forever. Nodu mma, Aloy.

Mr. A. Even after one year, no day has passed without mention of your name. We all feel very hurt deep down. I wish i knew that fateful Friday before your demise that it would be the last. You kept on talking for over two hours as if you knew it was the last. We chatted like old times and your promise to be in Nigeria a few weeks later never came to be. Your death has taught me a big lesson -Never stay away from God and do not postpone what you can do. How is papa and uncle Paul and others? My love to them. The bond we shared as siblings will continue to be our solace. Aloy rest in peace. AMEN.

Loyloy, remember this photo? What nice days those were at Forestry Hill! Would have been nice to be able to share these memories now, along with old stories, anecdotes, the joys and sorrows of our lives. But we can't now because we just kept on postponing things. Just wanted to let you know that we all still remember you like it was yesterday and will keep on remembering you. You will always be warm in our thoughts and in our hearts.
