It is with profound sadness that the family of Antonio La Vita announces his sudden passing on December 7, 2020, at the vibrant age of 97. Beloved husband of Jean, whose death preceded his in 2018, shared 60 years of life together. Loving father of Josie (George Gambioli) and Laura (William Brennan) and proud Nonno of Matthew, Adam, James and Ethan. He will be sadly missed by his remaining brother Guido and his predeceased sisters Maria Rosa, Theresa, Luigia, and brother, Pasquale. Antonio (Tony) will be forever remembered by his many nieces and nephews, extended family, dear friends and his church community.
Born in Calore, Avellino, Antonio was the fourth of 6 children and the first son of the La Vita family. Growing up in the beauty and bounty of the Campania region of southern Italy, Antonio was known for the mischief he created with his sisters and younger brothers. Entering the Italian military police force, Antonio became a Carabiniere at the age of 18 and served through World War II.
In 1951 he immigrated to Canada, eventually settling in Toronto’s Little Italy on Manning Street. Shortly thereafter, he would meet and marry Jean Crimi. Together they would build a life based on their love of God, strong family values and hard work. Guided by his deeply rooted principals, known for his generous heart and his life-long passion of history and politics, Antonio left an imprint on many lives.
Due to COVID¬19 restrictions, the La Vita family will be holding a closed family funeral service in the Kane-Jerrett Chapel on Saturday December 12, 2020 which will be followed by entombment at Westminster Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto would be most appreciated.
