After a life well lived and six months after the loss of her beloved Raymond, Audrey peacefully passed away on May 5, 2014, in her 96th year. She leaves behind those who loved her: her daughters Jill Geen (Ken Beard) and Judy Felton; her dear grandchildren Brandon Samler (Shanna Woon Sam), Carly Felton (Jeff Baxter), Courtney Felton (Andrew Ambrocichuk), Cody Felton; and her newest precious addition, her great-grandson River Ray Baxter.
We long ago learned to live without her dressing, butter tarts and pumpkin pie, but we will need some time to heal with the loss of her constant reassurance and affirmation that we were loved. She wanted nothing more than to see us succeed, get along and be happy. Audrey was born in Elma, ON, to Andrew Allison MacMillan and Luella Wegar. Whilst growing up on a farm, she was close to and looked out for her little brother Gerald MacMillan (deceased). She cherished her extended family; her sister-in-law Doreen MacMillan (deceased); nephews Myrle and Ronald MacMillan and their families; and Raymond's siblings and their families. When the war broke out she moved to Toronto to live with her in-laws while "her Ray" was overseas. She worked tirelessly at a munitions plant so that when he returned she would have saved the money to buy a home, and buy one she did. Her work ethic and cautious spending allowed them to achieve many things throughout their lives. Early years were spent in Toronto and later moving to Scarborough she found her lifelong affiliation with Knob Hill United Church, the UCW and friendship with Joan and Bill Cook and their family. Feisty and frugal, she beat all odds by surviving significant heart and lung disease. She was compliant and driven, mostly due to her respect and admiration for her Cardiologist Dr. Jim Swan and her Respirologist Dr. John Anthony, who were always there for her. We thank them and their staff for their constant care.
Despite Coronary Heart Disease and COPD she carried on with her life, meeting the challenges with her usual determination and grit. She loved to paint, golf, curl and visit. Together with Ray, her most monumental accomplishment was the establishment of the family cottage "Suits Us" at Ril Lake. Many treasured moments were spent with friends and family at "the lake". Audrey and Ray travelled and cruised and "happy houred" their golden years with gusto. But life was not the same after changes in health undermined their strenghts. Audrey was very despondent at the loss of her husband and friend of 75 years. She is now at peace and together forever with her beloved Raymond. We would like to thank the staff of Eatonville Long Term Care Centre for their patience and tolerance. We know it was not always easy. We especially wish to thank her PSW Diego Silang and her primary caregivers Beverley, Marcia, Kristy, Christine, Faithlynn, Amina and all the others who care for those who cannot care for themselves. We are grateful.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
A memorial service will be held at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St. (at Goulding, south of Steeles), on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Lung Association, or Jill Geen's Ride to Conquer Cancer for The Princess Margaret Hospital (www.conquercancer.ca).
