

Evelyn Lyon, née Saunders, passed away peacefully of natural causes December 20, 2023 at the Eden House Care Facility, Guelph, Ontario.
She was born in Iroquois Falls, Ontario on September 26, 1920 to Charles and Frances (née Clark) Saunders. She was the third oldest of their nine children, Howard (Janet), Verna (Harold), Eva (Johnny), June (Ronald), Edith (Tom), Jim (Marge), Viola (Bart), and Glen (Joanne) and grew up in Charlton, Ontario, living through the Great Fire of 1922. With the support of her uncles, Albert and Stewart Clark, she moved to the Toronto area in the early 1940s and worked at York Arsenals / Canadian Acme Screw and Gear producing artillery fuses during World War II. She married Gordon (Gord) Lyon, who passed December 29, 1978, in Toronto on February 21, 1946.
She was a passionate Toronto Blue Jays fan and kept on top of their game dates, locations and scores at all times.
She is survived by her daughter Judy (Brian) Swainson, her son Allen (Lynda) Lyon, grand-children Stephen Swainson, Jennifer (Paul) Viveiros, Christina (Adam Trenton) Swainson and Michael Lyon, great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Ethan, Thomas and Travis, her brother Glen and many nieces and nephews. All of these she loved deeply.
The family would particularly like to acknowledge the frequent visits, long hours and incredible care and support provided to Evelyn by her grandson Stephen over the last few years. His efforts went far beyond what would normally be expected. We sincerely thank him.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge St., Thornhill, Ontario on Friday, December 29, 2023. Visitation for family will start at 10:30 AM, for others at 11:00 AM. Services will be held at 12:00 PM followed by internment at the Westminster Cemetery, 5830 Bathurst St., North York.
In lieu of flowers or other tributes, donations can be made to a charity of your choice, especially one serving those in need of help at this time of the year.
