Betty was predeceased by her husband, Douglas in 2006 (“Doug” was her loving spouse for 51 years). Betty was predeceased in 2023 by her loving son, Ronald Richard Morrison. “Ron” is survived by his devoted wife, Adrianne.
Betty is predeceased by her parents, John Edward Sindrey, Pearlina Marjorie Sindrey (nee Hendrick), her siblings Douglas Sindrey (Marllyn), Donald Sindrey (Susan), Robert (Bob) Sindrey (Eileen), and Shirley Cummins (Ernie). Betty is also predeceased by her dear friend and companion, Mel Boyce.
Betty was born and raised in Toronto, where she attended Vaughan Road Collegiate. A natural athlete, she was competitive by nature and excelled in sports. During high school, she was a swimmer and a basketball player, earning the title of Canadian Champion—an achievement she spoke of with great pride.
Betty’s love story with Doug began when they met while working at Bell Canada. Together, they built a life and a family. After having children, Betty took on the role of homemaker, while also working part-time as a swimming instructor and bookkeeper. She was always committed to giving back to her community, volunteering at the local hospital’s gift shop for many years.
Those who knew Betty would describe her as determined, hardworking, and strong willed, but always with a heart full of love and a sense of purpose. She led by example, and her unwavering commitment to her family and community was evident in all she did.
Betty’s passion for sports never waned. Tennis, curling, and golf were just a few of the activities that brought her joy. Even later in life, she found herself still competitive, particularly in curling, where she showed a spirited drive long after most had retired from the sport. Betty also loved attending sporting events to cheer on her family and friends—she was truly their biggest fan.
Travel was another of Betty’s great joys. Through trips across North America, she and Doug reconnected with lifelong friends. In their later years, Mel and Betty traveled extensively, experiencing new cultures, making new friends, and enjoying the old.
One of Betty's favourite pastimes was spending time at the family cottage on Lake Couchiching, and later at their summer home in Bracebridge. She was an avid gardener, loved playing bridge, and had a creative side that she expressed through calligraphy, stained glass making, and knitting.
Betty cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She loved creating lasting memories with them, from playing games to giving them their own special nicknames.
Though she will be missed deeply, Betty’s legacy will live on in the memories she created with all those who loved her. She will forever remain in our hearts.
