Born in New Brunswick on April 9, 1936, Catherine lived a life defined by compassion, faith, service, and devotion to family. She spent the last 20 years of her life in Richmond Hill, Ontario, where she remained active in her community and close to those she loved.
In 1966, Catherine married her beloved husband, Clarence McMullen. Together they built a loving family that was the center of her life. She was a devoted mother to her four children, Rajive McMullen (Mannu), Promila McMullen (Ranjeev), Pratibha, and Anil, and a proud and loving grandmother to Nandita, Meher, Akash, and Simran. She cherished time spent with her family and took great joy in their lives and accomplishments.
Catherine dedicated her professional life to nursing, serving as a Registered Nurse at several Toronto hospitals, including Toronto General Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). Through her work, she touched countless lives with her kindness, skill, and unwavering commitment to caring for others.
Catherine also spent a significant part of her life living in India, a country that held a special place in her heart. During her years there, she made a tremendous impact on the lives of many people through her kindness, generosity, and caring nature. She formed deep and lasting friendships and often spoke fondly of her experiences, the people she met, and the love she had for her friends in India. The memories she created there remained among her most treasured throughout her life.
A woman of deep faith, Catherine was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church of Canada and was actively involved at Thornhill Presbyterian Church. She participated in the Women's Missionary Society (WMS) and many other church activities, forming lasting friendships and contributing generously to her faith community. Her Christian faith was a guiding force throughout her life and was reflected in the kindness, humility, and generosity she showed to others.
Catherine will be remembered as a nurturing and caring person who always put the needs of others before her own. She was a dear friend to many and was known for her warm hospitality, delicious baking, and genuine interest in the lives of those around her. She found pleasure in simple joys, including swimming, walking, and spending time with family and friends. Her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and loving nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, church community, and all whose lives she touched. Her legacy of faith, compassion, service, and friendship will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
