On December 26th, 2022, at the age of 92, and after a long battle with Alzheimers, our Mum is finally at peace. She spent her childhood in Uddingston (Glasgow), Scotland, until she and her late sister Nancy were evacuated to Grande Prairie in western Canada during the Second World War. After a few years back in Britain, Mum returned to Canada and settled in Toronto. She was married to the late Roland Bergman for almost 60 years. She was always interested in current events, and enjoyed a walk followed by a good cup of tea. In mid-life, she became a social worker with Metro Social Services. She leaves behind her children, Roberta and John, as well as extended family in Scotland and Canada. She also maintained a few long-lasting friendships, most notably with Mavis and Elaine, Rita, and Celia.
Rena’s family would like to thank the staff at Seniors Health Centre (NYGH) for their care of our Mum. Special thanks also go to Rena’s visiting companion, Cristy, who gave our Mum wonderful support as Alzheimers took its toll.
According to her wishes, Mum will be cremated. In the spring, there will be a gathering to celebrate her life on the afternoon of May 3rd, 2023 at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home Thornhill, 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill. Details will be available closer to the date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society, Camp Wabanaki, or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
