November 8, 1927 – February 22, 2017
Peacefully passed away at Sunrise Senior Living in Unionville on February 22nd at age 89. Beloved wife of Eric (deceased) for 56 years. Loving Mum to Graham (Sue) and Evelyn (Garth deceased). Proud Gran of Sean (Steph), Brendan, Stephanie, Jamie (Jessica), and Emily. Dear sister of the late John (Joan deceased), Betty (Stewart deceased), Ronald (Margaret), and Patricia (Allan). Survived by her many nieces and nephews. Loved and remembered by her many friends. On February 22, 1954
Dorothy arrived in Canada from Scotland with Graham and Evelyn to meet up with husband Eric to forge a new life together. Dot was a great gardener who spent countless hours in her garden, to the envy of many a passerby. She loved playing tennis and badminton and played well into her late eighties. She also found time to be a Brownie leader and commissioner, a member of the Trefoil Guild and a member of a Stitchery Group. She volunteered many hours to the Pleasant Avenue Public School lunch and learn-to-read programs.
Dot collected stamps for Oxfam, pop tabs for wheelchairs, knitted teddy bears for hospitals, served at Meals-on-Wheels functions, and the list went on. Through all these efforts she received a letter from Queen Elizabeth II for the volunteer work she did.
The family wishes to thank the people at Sunrise Senior Living of Unionville, CCAC, the many doctors and health care workers, and the palliative care team at Markham-Stouffville Hospital.
A celebration of life will take place at R.S. Kane Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 22nd from 2:00-5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your charity of choice, if you wish to do so.
