At age 96 our beloved matriarch, Elda, left us on Tuesday, February 20th in Toronto, having lived a life filled with family, friends, faith and good food - all of which she was passionate about. Elda Dolores Teolis was born in Toronto on July 10, 1921 to Italian parents Irma and Angelo, and grew up with her 3 siblings in the Bathurst & St. Clair area of the city. Elda was curious, intelligent and excited about so many aspects of life. From applying to drive an ambulance at age 19 in London during World War 2, to considering the offer of the Vice Principalship of a school in northern Ontario at age 20, or working in a stockbroker's office and learning the market, she was always up for a new adventure. She taught herself how to use computers at age 78 and had an active online presence playing bridge, listening to music, forwarding interesting articles and jokes and creating new social contacts. Elda was a tireless and devoted Mom to six children - Ann, Leonard, Cici (Denise), Rosemary, Alison and Diane, grandmother to eleven and great grandmother to four. Leonard, her husband of 53 years, passed away in January of 2000 and adored her from the day he laid eyes on her. Together they raised their large family, golfed, enjoyed summers at the family cottage, and after their kids were grown, spent winters in Florida with a gang of friends, golfing, holding dinner parties and sharing an active and well-deserved retirement. Elda gathered friends throughout her lifetime and in her later years, continued to enjoyed a healthy social life, time with family, playing bridge and especially golfing - which she excelled at until age 89. Elda’s deeply strong Catholic faith maintained her throughout many of life's challenges, including the painful loss of the two children who predeceased her. She was a wonder with an incredible smile and an extraordinary sparkle. She will be very much missed by her family and all who knew her. Elda's visitation will be at Kane's Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, (at Goulding, south of Steeles) on Monday February 26th from 2 - 4 and then 6 - 8 pm. The funeral will be held on Tuesday February 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 39 Green Lane, Thornhill. Condolences www.rskane.ca
