Eleanor Shizu Maruno (nee Tsuchiya) died peacefully on Tuesday January 4, 2022 at Castleview Wychwood Towers in her 98th year. She was predeceased by her loving husband Mike Maruno and her only child, Maureen (Reenie) Sheffield. Her siblings, Mary, Louise, Harry, George and Irene also predeceased her. She is survived by her grandchildren, Max, Mya, Karen and Mark, her son-in-law Keith Sheffield and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was born in Vancouver, B.C, and lived there until 1942 when she and her family were relocated to Revelstoke, B.C., as part of the internment of Japanese Canadians by the Canadian Government during World War II. Eleanor met Mike in Revelstoke and they married there in 1944. After the war ended, she and Mike moved to Toronto.
Eleanor was a talented artist who found many ways to express herself, whether it was painting mermaids on bathroom walls, making memorable toys for her daughter and Christmas stockings for her nieces and nephews, or fashioning intricate paper dolls.
She was a beautiful, stylish woman, always elegantly turned out. She also had a great fondness for dogs. She owned and pampered many throughout her life.
