My sincere condolences to all of you, the family in Canada. I had not see Aunt Eleine for many years – we last shared time together when I was in Paris almost 14 years ago. I remember it well, I passed through Canada on a business trip to the USA and I re-call the big family feast and Campbell talk we had together. A truee reflection of how Eleine led her life - she always insisted we see and live our lives as a family unit, sharing our Sunday’s time together, with whichever “foreign” relative was passing through that weekend. My memories of herinclude the time when she came to Jamaica to take care and charge of Grandma and during what seemed as her annual pilgrimage to Jamaica to recharge her batteries by catching a glimpse of the past. On these visits she disguised the fact to us as children that we were living in hard times - during the “oil” crises of the late 70’s, as she played the role of our Santa alongside Aunty Gloria and Joselle to lighten our seemingly heavy loads. They were the bearer of stories, hopes, ambition, sweets, clothes and goodies for the children during harsh economic times. She was for me a devote, vibrant and radiant personality. Never shying from her desire to connect and keep connected a family spread across the globe. This is indeed something for us left behind on this earth to build upon – it should be treated as her gift to us as life lesson learned. I will take heed of this and always be open to guests from my extended family as they seek to go on and discover the world as I have been fortunate to do to date. You are all welcome to visit me in Abu Dhabi or wherever my hat is subsequently laid. I hope that you are all bearing up, that the funeral was attended. Her life should be truly celebrated and remembered for both her unbowed devotion to us as a family and to the nursing profession in Canada. I'm sorry I was not able to attend but I have been and will continue to think of your sorrow going forward. Dear Alwyn abd Faith and families, Eleine's courage and motivation through her life has been such a shining light in a world that has needed more of her...she gave 'til the end, and now shines more brightly. My sincere condolences to all of you, the family in Canada. I'm glad I got the opportunity to see Aunt Eleine for the last time on my visit to Canada in May. I have many memories of her, in particular the time when I stayed with her on holiday in the early 70s, as well as the trip I took with her in 1990 to see the Oberammergau passion play in Germany. She was so youthful with such a fine complexion, other people in our travelling group thought we were sisters! She was a great travelling companion, we had a lovely time and said we should do other trips together, but sadly that didn't happen. It goes to show one should always 'seize the day' whenever possible. I hope that you are all bearing up, that the funeral is well attended and her life truly celebrated.
