As a parishioner of St. Paschal Baylon Church, I had always admired Evans delivery of Scriptural readings. When I joined the lector team in mid 90s, I got to work with and know Evans a little more. He was like my mentor without him realizing it. He was a quiet, soft spoken gentleman and always with a smile. So approachable and helpful. And when he stepped down from being a lector, he continued to help out at the parish. And seeing Evans with his wife at Sunday mass was always so inspiring to see. I will miss his presence at the church but thankful to the good Lord for having sent Evans to walk among us - a truly wonderful man.

How can I express the deep joy I feel in my heart for Uncle Evans. When I think about all the times I have laughed - and laughed hard - when in his company. I am so grateful to my parents, Uncle Evans and Aunt Neila for their sacrifice, commitment & dedication to our family. Together, they made sure that Steve, Robert, myself, Terrence - and later little Chester -knew each other. They lived in Canada. We lived in NY. That fact was NEVER an obstacle. For the first 18 years of my life - and I mean every year - we were together. Carabana, on a cruise, at a Dude Ranch, at home in Canada, at home in NY - every Summer, we were together. We visited so many places together. We have so many experiences that we shared - together. The 9 of us. You know - all that really matters is family. Uncle Evans NEVER turned a summersault down. Uncle Evans was always ready for a card game. When he yelled "CHEESE AND RICE" I knew the card game was good. Make sure you step to the side when it was time for Uncle Evans to go to the track. I will miss the chiclets, the great toasts & speeches at weddings, traveling with Rum & coke, and most of all the burgundy shorts & the calf high black socks (that sock length is in style now Uncle Evans. You started the trend over 50 years ago). Thanks Uncle Evans for the BEST times! I love you with every breath I take and I miss you more...

Uncle Evans was a pillar of strength in my life.One of the things i remember fondly about him was God must always come first in everything i do those words of his often gave me strength in my trying times Uncle Evans had a way with the Latin Masses he made then come alive I remember he loved carnival so much  if its one time for the year he came to the land of his birth Trinidad would be that season.Your smile will never be forgotten to me it was always a sunshine to see you smile. He was my Superstar Uncle!! whom I love, partied with, and celebrated Christmas times together eating and partying as my Unky Ev loved doing, after GRACE was said of course. My condolences to the family. I was a student at St. Mike's from 1973 to 1977 Mr Tannis was my French teacher in Grade 9 and 10, he was also my homeroom teacher. He also coached my brother Steve Engyel in soccer. May he Rest in Peace and may Perpetual light shine upon him.

Evans has run the good race of life --- and finished with a comfortable lead crossing the final line of life. He has advanced to the "winners circle" after a quarter century of service at SMCS as a teacher, colleague and coach.

I had the pleasure of meeting Evans as a child when he and my father worked together at St. Mike's. The story continued when I went to work at the school myself. Evans was always ready with a smile and a joke. He never failed to put a smile on my face. Evans will be missed.

It was my pleasure to meet Evans when I joined St.Thomas More school in Chelsea London. in 1963. The thing that stands out was his wonderful smile, like a ray of sunshine! He taught maths, and French. Gambling was in his blood, (in the nicest way).It was not unheard of students working out the odds , wins and losses of races.What did 8-1mean etc. He had the students enthralled!
We got to know him well over the years. If you got on a bus with Evans, the conductors seemed to know him well, and would seek to know what horse to bet on! we attended his wedding to Cornelia. Evans was so laid back that it drove Cornelia to distraction. She refused to return back from Canada, unleless he took life more seriously regarding a proper home. Hence he emigrated to Canada!
He was a keen sportsman, especially cricket, and football. He ran school teams. He loved playing bridge, and was an accomplished player.He was avery religious and caring man and a friend to all.
When we had our first child, he held her in his arms on the tube, and retorted this is wonderful for race relations - he had a white daughter! He was always so full of fun.He was so proud of Robert and Stephen, and his grand children. He always spoke so fondly of all of them. He was so concerned about meeting the needs of Cornelia, and expressed his grat love for her.
We were privileged that he visited us before Christmas ( however he managed to get Moira Wilson and us is nothing short of a miracle,without an address book or phone numbers!!!)HE SAID HE WANTED TO VISIT HIS FRIENDS BEFORE HE DEPARTED THIS LIFE. We feel privileged to be counted as his friends.
His pain is no more, May he rest in peace.

I remember Mr. Tannis as a very kind and enthusiastic teacher while at SMC, and enjoyed speaking with him years later at several alumni functions. My deepest condolences to his family.

Evans was one of my coaches when I began serving as a Lector in the Parish in 1985. He was a gentle soul, a great listener and always spoke thoughtfully. I am from the SMCS class of 86 and was a student of Mr. Tannis, he was always a very kind and helpful teacher who loved to talk about his cricket. He would pick me up at the bus stop if he saw me standing there. 30 years later, I often think of him. I will always remember him.
