July 13, 1922 - December 10, 2008
Days after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with her husband Terry, Evelyn suffered a stroke and passed away on Wednesday December 10, 2008 in her 87th year. Survived by her husband Terry, sons Fred and Phil, daughter-in-laws Marilyn and Charleen, grandchildren: Kelly, Jennifer, Hayley and Spencer, sisters Joan Delaporte and Barbara Carry, brother-in-laws Don Delaporte, Dave Bartlett and sister-in-law Polly Bartlett. Predeceased by her daughter Meg and brother Bruce Cook. She will be sadly missed by the many nieces and nephews, friends, neighbours, dogs Guinness and Maggie along with Wellington the cat. Her generosity and kindness will be missed all.
A glass half full kind of gal, Ev always had a positive outlook on life despite its challenges. She loved art; took up painting when she was 70 and became quite accomplished. She was also passionate about skiing, sailing, swimming and even surfed on her boogie board this year. A good clam digger too. Ev shared her love for the outdoors and the colours of life with Terry, her family and friends. She and Terry spent many summers in Rhode Island. She will be sadly missed by their friends there also.
Many thanks to the staff at York Central Hospital. They helped make her last days as comfortable as possible. Memorial service for Evelyn will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 140 Brooke Street, Thornhill, on Sunday December 14 2008 at 12:30 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Please make cheques payable to CAMH Foundation XXX Queen Street West, Toronto.
