I just recently became aware of the passing of Rich Morris. I got to know Rich through the Canadian Fire Safety Association when I served on the Board of Directors.His dedication,support for the Fire Service, and passion for Life Safety was tireless.He always had time to say hello at the many functions that I saw him at.My condolances to his family.

Wow how time fly's ,seems like just yesterday the world lost a great man RIP

Please accept my sincere condolences. Rich was General Manager when I worked as Receptionist at Pyrotronics Canada. I always anticipated his cheerful "Good morning" and kind gestures during my time with the company.

Rich, Your loss will be felt across the fire service, you were a great inspiration to me. You believed in me and accepted me and for that I will forever be grateful It was you that showed me the fight is worth it. As a young inspector I looked up to you, and now after a few more years behind me, that admiration hasn't changed. God Bless.

From the time I first met him while I was in college, Rich was always a role model - as he was for many. The enthusiasm and passion he displayed for his chosen profession helped lead me to my own career in fire protection. Rich was such a positive and tremendous influence on so many people, it is impossible to fully describe the impact he has had. The world is a much better place for Rich having been part of it, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to know him. He will be truly missed.

Rich was a true gentleman and someone to, respect, model after, learn from, and hope to obtain his great work ethic. We met in the 90's and he made me feel at ease with his friendship and straight true talk. He is a memory to keep and always remember.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Rich in 1974 when I became Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs. During my years with CAFC, Rich was a mentor and always a source of wisdom and commonsense. His committment to eradicating this country of the ravages and destruction caused by fire speak for themselves. And in so, so many ways he was successful! He was always cheerful, upbeat. and always willing to lend a helping hand. Rich will be missed. God bless him. Emile Therien, Ottawa, Ontario.

I first met Rich when I joined Pyrotronics in 1973. Rich was a leader and mentor and always an inspiration. I will miss seeing Rich at NFPA and taking our annual 10 minute trip down memory lane - back in the good old days of Pyrotronics. The fire alarm industry has lost a great man. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I met Rich in 1992 and as a new member to the fire safety field he welcomed me with open arms and inspired me to preach fire safety wherever I went. It is twenty years later, I am still preaching, and every time I talk about the importance of working smoke alarms I can hear Rich in the background, saying "Atta Girl". He was a mentor to many of us, his work will live on forever and he will never be forgotten. My condolences to his family and the fire service. The world will not be the same without him!

Rich was a truly great man in all that did. As a champion for fire safety and as one who loved family and friends. I first met Rich in 2000 and immediately found a mentor and role model. Rich was passionate about fire safety commiting his life to this cause. He was a dedicated family man and a faithful friend. Rich was Chairman of NFPA when I worked in our Public Education division. He was a true advocate for fire safety and stood 100% behind our efforts to teach the world how to be more fire-safe. Rich had a big heart and was one of those people who always looked you in the eye when he was talking to you. I'll miss his dedication to our shared cause for fire safety and wish Patsy and his family peace during this difficult time.

It is with heavy heart that we say goodbye to our dear friend Rich whom we have known for more that twenty years. It was Rich who led me to NFPA where as Chairman key was key in saving this organization. Rich was not only a good friend who never had a bad word to say about anybody but he was also a great mentor and professional colleague who always exhibited the highest ethical standards. He was a people's person who always showed the greatest concern for the NFPA staff with whom he was on a first name basis. I met Rich in 1979. No, I met him before that but didn't really know who he was as a person. If I'd only been smarter then, I would have had a few more than the 30 years of mentorship he contributed to my growth. He was the kind of man you aspire to be but just never seem able to reach. Gentlemanly, kind, and always the right advice when it was needed. He was always genuinely interested in those around him and loved to help out whenever and however he could. A genuine untiring icon of our industry. A friend who will be sorely missed.

Dearest Family of Richard Morris, I join with so many others who knew Rich in offering my deepest sympathy on his passing. Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction for you to know that you can celebrate the end of a very long and productive life. The measure of a life well-lived is not in how much many possessions a person has accumulated, but rather through the lives they touched and the sorrow they leave behind. If the outpouring of sympathy on his loss is any indication, and it most certainly is, you can proudly and confidently say that his indeed was a life well-lived. I met Rich way back in 1965/66 when I came from Switzerland to Toronto and knew pretty soon that I had found a good friend in, at that time, rather small fire alarm community. I loved working with him for many years and we enjoyed our lunches in the Hy’s Steak House, discussing fire and especially smoke detectors. Yes, he was very instrumental in introducing the smoke alarms into Canada and I knew the day when his quest for acceptance was fulfilled when in an ULC Meeting Bill Sproule, Chief of the Toronto Fire Department admonished another committee member that these were not Smoke Detectors but Smoke Alarms for individual houses. As a person he was tirelessly involved in all aspects of education for our members, be it CFAA or CFSA, for his own employees, fire alarm technicians or Seneca College Students. I have not seen him since I moved to the West Coast, but one just had to read the various Fire Journal to know that for him there was no such thing as retirement and I know for our industry, be it in Canada, the USA or Europe, his passing is also a tremendous loss, he definitely cannot be replaced ! Rich was a mentor to me and many. He led the way in the best, ethical business practices by example. He lived as an outstanding person both personally and professionally.

Rich was a great guy, a patriot, and a world leader. We had great moments with Rich, for the NFPA, the industry, and the standards world. One golden moment was in Quebec City: our ceremony with Rich honoring Gaeton Perron, of la Défense nationale du Canada, for his work with NATO. Another was in Toronto when NFPA hosted the opening reception for the annual COPANT / Latin American Standards Commission meeting, with Rich and other Canadian fire protection leaders, to illustrate one did not have to be "US" to own the NFPA, and make it your resource. With his support for technology for his company, and for public education, Rich left the world a safer place. I shed a tear for our loss of Rich, and pray for the comfort of his family and friends.
