George Darlington

With broken hearts, we share that George passed suddenly on July 24, 2026, at North York General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Ruth (née Symington); his daughter, Diane (Trevor); his grandchildren, Braydon and Meghan, and their mother, Julie Thompson; his niece, Janice House; and his nephews, Steve Darlington (Paula), Danny Smith (Linda), and David Smith (Shirley).

George is predeceased by his son, Thomas William George Darlington, and his siblings, Tom Darlington (Joyce) and Minnie Smith (Norm).

George will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was devoted to his family and cherished every moment he spent with them. Whether playing his bongos or cutting a rug on the dance floor, his inherent rhythm for life shone through. He enjoyed camping, exploring the country he loved, baseball—playing in his youth and watching his Jays in his later years—and spending many Sunday afternoons on the curling rink. He was a leader in his church, acting multiple times as Warden and was a founder of the Monk Cell fundraising dinners. George had a distinguished career at Loblaws Companies Limited and, in retirement, established his Mr. Fixit business. So many people relied on George. We will be lost without him.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Theodore of Canterbury Anglican Church, 111 Cactus Ave., North York, with a reception at the family home to follow.
