Georgina died on June 19 after a long, full and happy life, including 38 wonderful years of marriage to Carl, who died too soon in November 1994. She will be dearly missed by her children, Mary Jane and Jim, her daughter-in-law, Mary and her grandchildren, Madeline, Miranda, Carling and Aidan, many nieces and nephews and their children and lots of long-time friends.
Georgina was born in Galt, ON (Cambridge), the only daughter of Katherine (Preston, ON) and Robert (London, England). Growing up with 3 brothers was not always easy, but she was able to stand out and shine. Her youngest brother had hemophelia, so they frequently had home nursing care which ignited a lifelong calling in the health care field. Georgina’s nursing career took her from acute care to the baby nursery, but her real calling was public health where her talents at connecting with people really shone. Her kind and calm voice of reason will be sorely missed.
Georgina met her future husband when she was 4 years old, at their families’ summer homes at Bruce Beach. She has said that she had always known that her family would be built with this man. Georgina was so proud of her children and grandchildren that she was known to regale anyone who would listen with stories of their activities and accomplishments.
Georgina’s final days were dignified and peaceful, thanks to the dedicated staff at the Palliative Care Unit at Mackenzie Health in Richmond Hill. Special thanks to Myriam, Jackie, Amelia & Sandra.
In memory of Georgina, spend some quality time with your family or have a visit with a friend. The family suggests memorial contributions to the The Canadian Cancer Society or Shriners Hospitals for Children-Canada.
Due to the restrictions mandated by COVID-19, a celebration of Georgina’s life will be held in the fall. The family will share their memories privately at the graveside at York Cemetery.
