You will be fondly remembered for the love and affection you provided during my college days wherein we use to often visit your home at Garodia (India) for studies, dance practice, general chit chat and then have the lovely fish curry you used to prepare for us before your leave for work.

Dearest Shaila and Simi,

We are so deeply sorry for your loss. Your mum was such a special person, and we feel truly grateful to have known her.

We will always remember how she laughed so wholeheartedly at Tony’s jokes, it was heartening to see that kind of interaction that made everyone else smile with her. We also used to call her Panpole Aunty, the ones she made for us were so lacy and delicious, but even more than that, they were a reflection of her warmth and generosity.

We’ll also never forget her signature move when getting so excited that she’d give you a playful pat. It was such a joyful, affectionate expression of who she was, and it always made those moments feel even more full of life and love.

We know how much she meant to both of you and to your families, and we can only imagine how deeply she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. We hope you’re able to find some comfort in the love she gave so freely and the countless memories she leaves behind.

Auntie Gertie has been a big part of my adolescence. During college days I was practically living at Shaila's home in Garodia Nagar. I remember Auntie as a person who was always busy caring for her home and family even though she was a working woman. I was always made to feel so welcome and loved by her. A great cook, I will never forget the aroma of freshly Ground masalas on stone, by hand, tickling my nostrils as soon as I entered the house. Her hugs, smile and affectionate scolding will stay with me forever. I will miss your presence on this earth, Auntie, but I know that now you are in a much better place with Uncle.
