Gunter Karl Manchen

Passed away, with his family by his side, on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Gisela for over 52 years. Proud father of Susanna (Sunny) and her husband Michael (deceased) and Christiane and her husband Andreas. Devoted Opa of Stephan, Alexandra, Samantha, and Rebekah. Brother of Eberhard, Peter, and Wolfgang. Deeply mourned by his best friend Heribert Koenig. Born in Halle/Saale, Germany, he became a cabinet maker and church organ builder. He immigrated to Toronto in 1965, with his wife and daughters. Gunter established Manchen Pianos, a piano sales and service company, which grew into Toronto's Piano and Keyboard Centre and Naples, Florida's Euro Grand Piano Gallery with his trusted partner Wayne Chen.

Gunter was a generous supporter of the South West Florida music community. Many aspiring musicians stayed at his and Gisela's Naples home. Their hospitality was legendary.

Gunter was actively involved in the restoration of the Evangelische Johannesgemeinde in Halle(Saale), Germany.

He valued his Christian faith above all.

A Toronto Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles).

A Naples, Florida Memorial Service and luncheon will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church (860 Banyan Boulevard Naples, FLORIDA 34102-5199, USA (239) 261-7700)
