April 17, 1928 – September 28, 2022
Peacefully at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre – K Wing at the age of 94. Gwen was born in Port Elgin, Ontario daughter of the late Dr. James and Luella Fraser. She was the loving wife of the late Robert S. Kane (2000). Loved mother of John (Victoria) (the late Marie), Marie (Len), Martin (the late Jeff), Robert (Kelly), Warren (Grace), Gwendolyn Jr. (Rob), and Julia (Keith). Sadly missed by grandchildren Jason, Jessica, Nicholas, Alex, James, Cameron, Calvin, Melissa, Emily, Amanda, Madeline, Claire, Sam, Alexandra, Ryan and Carolyn; Great-grandchildren Kayla, Ben, Marin, Ethan, Owen, Faye and Joseph. Dear sister of the late Lee Bertram, Yvonne Flock and Jim Fraser.
Gwen was a strong community member passionate about her time as a nurse (Women’s College Graduate), funeral director and volunteering with many different organizations. You could find her with a collection of items such as pop can tabs, Campbell soup labels and anything else that assisted charitable organizations.
Gwen and her late husband were the founders of the R.S. Kane Funeral Home in 1950, first at 4812 Yonge Street then 6150 Yonge Street in 1985. This also included Kane Ambulance service from 1953 until 1975. They were exceptionally proud of the care they provided to the community and the city at large.
Friends may call on Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill (south of Highway 407, west side). Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 11am at St. John’s York Mills Anglican Church, 19 Don Ridge Drive, North York.
