Hazel Mercuria D'Rozario

It is with sadness that the family of Hazel D’Rozario, born on December 12, 1930, announce her sudden but peaceful passing on February 28, 2024 at the age of 93 years. Hazel is reunited in heaven with her parents Simon and Nellie Anselm; her beloved husband of 59 years Herbert D’Rozario; her sisters Chris Vanspall, and Aureen Ryder, and her brother Claude Anselm. She will be dearly missed by her surviving siblings Verna Nagpal, Earl Anselm and Dolores D’Avilar. Hazel is mourned by her children Gillian MacLeod, Mark D’Rozario, and his wife Sonia D'Rozario, Cheryl Ashley, and her husband Roger Oatley, and grandchildren Ryan Ashley, Lauren Ashley, Samantha D’Rozario, husband Mike Kerr, Jesscia D’Rozario, Simon MacLeod, Rory MacLeod and great grandson Zachary Kerr.

Hazel was known for her signature bright smile, energized approach to life, and her exceptional hospitality. She travelled the world with her husband visiting family and friends throughout. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

During her life her hobbies included playing bridge, badminton, tennis, and cross country skiing. Until the end she enjoyed gardening, knitting and doing the daily crossword puzzle.

Hazel had a successful career as an Administrative Assistant to the GM of OHIP. Prior to that, in India, she was an Administrative Assistant to the Director at the Metal Box Company (Crown Cork and Seal).She was an active volunteer at Carefree Lodge, Cummer House and North York General Hospital. She won many awards for her years of dedicated service.

The family asks that she be remembered for all the joy she brought to others in life and not in the sadness of her passing.

Hazel’s visitation will be held at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home Thornhill Chapel on Tuesday March 5th from 4 to 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in North York on Wednesday March 6th at 10am. Prior to the interment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, the family invites you to join them for a luncheon in memory of Hazel, within the church hall.
