Herman passed away suddenly, Wednesday April 27, after an amazing battle with both heart failure and kidney dialysis. Herman is predeceased by his beloved wife Trudy and daughter Karin. Both his sons, Ralph(Gail) and Cliff(Janet) will miss his high intelligence, camaraderie and strength.
"Opa" will forever be in the hearts of his grandchildren, Rob Archibald(Shannon), Michael, Richard(Claire), Alexander, Natalie, Niki, Kevin and his great grandchildren Kya and Riley. His relatives in Germany, especially his sister Thea in Erfurt, and sister-in-law Ruth, Wilfried and family in Minden will miss his friendship and weekly phone calls. He will be dearly missed by his beloved cat Kiki.
"Dad" lead a full and fulfilling life. He was an avid learner and reader even in his last few weeks. He loved his family and relished celebrating his 92nd birthday with them. Everyone enjoyed his company, especially when discussing politics, history and soccer or his adventurous past.
Herman greatly appreciated the kindness and professionalism provided him by the dialysis team at York Central Hospital, especially Jan Herdman's care and advocacy.
We know that Herman would be honoured if donations were made in his memory to "The Chronic Kidney Disease Program" at York Central Hospital
Friends may call on Monday, May 2, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Cremation.
