Alice, we are so saddened to read of Ted's passing. As young officers we formed a bond that remained. When we met again after many years it seemed like no time had passed since both our Charlenes were born. Our sympathies and prayers are with you.

Charlene, I was shocked & saddened to hear of your Father's passing. I recall you telling me years ago of his & your Mother's ongoing efforts to assist the less fortunate in the world. Let's hope he & Wayne are together now. Sincere condolences, Gale

This poem just seems so fitting for Ted. He was one of the best people I have ever met; kind, honest, loving, a friend to all and a smile that could light up a room. He worked tirelessly for anyone he met and always went beyond the call. He will be missed but if you read and listen to what this poem says .... Alice and Charlene; I first met Ted through the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and worked with him there and after.Ted was a man of the Badge and a man of the Book without doubt. I was shocked and grieved to hear of the passing of a great Canadian, My friend Ted will always be remembered by me as a guy with a big smile; but with a much bigger heart. My wife Marilyn and I wish to express our heartfelt condolences on the untimely passing of Ted. I was an ordinary Police Officer who recalls Ted as a caring man who defended the rights of the marginalized in our society. He was a good and loyal servant to the Toronto Police Service and the community.

Dear Alice and Charlene: It is with profound sadness and great shock that we have learnt of the homegoing of your wonderful husband, father and our dear friend, Ted. He was such a wonderful Godly man, always positive and encouraging others. He was such a great encourager for Andrew ever since they were together on a Missions trip in Latin America. We always admired Ted, the wonderful work both Ted and you did in B.C. for young street people while Al McLean was still alive. We also know how much Ted was loved and admired by his peers while he was on the Metro Toronto Police Force. Although God decided to take him home at a relatively young age, we know he is with his Lord and Saviour who will welcome him with “well done good and faithful soldier”. While we "do not mourn as those who have no hope", we do weep with you in the loss of such a vibrant and significant life whose influence and impact on all who knew him was deep and profound. We will all miss him greatly. Our deepest thoughts, prayers and love to you Alice and Charlene and the extended family at this time of your loss. I will miss Ted. He and I were often mistaken for each other and that brought us a lot of laughter over the years. I was proud to be associated with him. Diane and I will remember Ted and the wonderful bond he had with his family. I'm hoping he is with Wayne. That would bring him the peace he deserves.

What a shock it was to hear of Ted's passing!!! RIP Ted....thoughts and prayers go out to your family!

My earliest memories of Ted, Alice, Charlene and Wayne - are when we were in Richmond Hill. I remember Dad and Ted getting together and realizing that they had the 'building bug'. Ted and Alice started building homes, and then Dad and Mom did as well. They helped each other and learned as they went along. It began as a beautiful friendship that has lasted almost 40 years. When I started my very first job, working downtown, Ted was my chauffeur. He picked me up every morning and dropped me off at the Finch subway station on his way to his police station. We had some great conversations and a lot of fun those mornings. I always appreciated that he looked after a somewhat naive young woman, growing up in Richmond Hill, now working in the City. Thank you for being so caring and a true friend to our family. When my little 6 year old asked me today why I was sad, I told him that our good friend Ted had died. Ryan (my son) asked me if Ted was in heaven now. I said yes, he was. Ryan then said - well then, he is alive in heaven with Jesus. Yes, he is. I first met Ted, Alice, Charlene & Wayne (who was just a little guy then) about 38 years ago at Richmond Hill Baptist Church.  When I was about 15, the Church asked if I would play piano for the Sunday services.  Reluctantly (as I am not a good piano player), I agreed.  Soon after I started, I noticed this very blond gentleman sitting at the organ.  I recognized him as Ted.  He reluctantly agreed to play the organ.  The thing with Ted was that he didn't play any music if it had sharps.  He didn't mind playing flats, but no sharps; not even 1!  So, when the preacher announceded the music for the services (with no rehearsal or prep time), and the song was written in sharps, Ted would quickly glance over at me; give me a wink and that infectious half-smile; and we would transpose the music (on the fly) into a key containing flats.  Oh my, how did we do that?!  It still makes me smile, our little secret.  No one knew what key we were playing in anyway!  Ever since I have known Ted he always called me "Donner".  He always called Dan, and subsequently, Kyle "big guy".  I have lots of fond memories of Ted and my dad, Eric, working & laughing together.  Thank you, big guy Ted, for being my dad's best friend for almost 40 years.  We will miss you!  Love, prayers & hugs to Alice & Charlene.  Love Donner & Dan

Dearest Aunt Alice and Cousin Charlene, Please accept my deepest condolences for your profound loss. I'll never forget Uncle Ted, his always sage advice and his excellent hosting skills. I credit my good driving skills to him: he got me into that special training program which taught driving instructors. Nearly every time I look into a curve to make a turn, I think of Uncle Ted.
