
Mrs. Honor Noreen McCabe (nee Servais) age 75 years, resident of Scarborough, ON passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2006 at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, following a brief stay in the Palliative Care Unit due to cancer.
Noreen was born March 9th, 1931 in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay), ON. Daughter of the late Nora and Edmund (Toupe) Servais. She is survived by her beloved husband, M. Earle McCabe and his daughters Maureen McCabe and Margot (Dexter) Thoms of Toronto. Sisters Marie Gillies, Eleanor Hill, twin sister Georgeen Srigley, of Thunder Bay, and Joy (Tom) Peart, of Burlington, ON. Brothers John (Rita) Servais and Edmund Servais, Thunder Bay. Sisters in-law Vi Servais of Thunder Bay and Barb Savage of Calgary. Brother-in-law Bob Gillies of Burlington, ON. Noreen is predeceased by brothers Robert and Patrick Servais, sister-in-law Nora Servais, and brother-in-law Gordon Hill, all of Thunder Bay. Many nieces and nephews will miss Aunt Noreen who always kept in touch with them.
Noreen attended St. Andrew's Separate School in Port Arthur and then went on to St. Joseph?s College in North Bay, ON. In February 1949, Noreen entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie. She served with the Sisters in the field of education in Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay, Schrieber, Nipigon and Thunder Bay for twenty-six years. Throughout these years and her entire teaching career, she gladdened the hearts of thousands of children with her love and laughter. She piloted the Canadian Bishops' religious series, "Come to the Father" and pioneered the Language Arts Program for the Nipissing District Catholic School Board. As she excelled in primary education she served both as Teacher and Principal. As Director of Boarders at St. Mary's Academy in North Bay, she warmly welcomed students from Latin America. In the Community of the Sisters of St. Joseph, she assumed leadership roles in North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie and Nipigon. In 1975 she left the Community and returned to her home in Thunder Bay where she continued to teach until she retired in 1989.
In October 1996 she married M. Earle McCabe and they made their home in Scarborough until her death in her 76th year. Noreen will be greatly missed by her family and dearest friends of sixty years Patty McKinnon of Toronto, and Sister Anne Sartor of North Bay. Noreen will be remembered as a devoted family member, a gracious hostess, and an active lady with a zest for life. Generosity has been the hallmark of her life.

Thursday, August 10, 2006 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St., (at Goulding, south of Steeles Ave.), Toronto, ON. 416-221-1159. Prayers will be said at 2:30 pm by Rev. Father Hansoo Park of their home parish, Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic Church followed by a Eulogy by Patty McKinnon.

Wednesday, August 16, 2006; 11:00 am at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, 292 Red River Road, Thunder Bay, ON. Funeral Mass will be said by Rev. Father Ed Merchant. Internment to follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery.
