I have just come off the phone from chatting with Gwen. She told me the sad news of the passing away of your dear Jack. First of all I couldn't really believe it and indeed found this site through the powers of google.
I hadn't known Jack for long but always had news of Jack, Theresa and family though Gwen.

I just want to add my voice to those paying tribute to Jack Harrington.
I've never met anyone with such reserves of goodwill. It is something that I took for granted at first but appreciated more and more with passing time. His generosity, humour and selflessness were the things that bound our group of Don Millions together over the years. I'm sure anyone else who crossed his path would feel his warmth as well.
We will miss him so much. 

I am so sorry for your loss, please know you have my deepest sympathy.
I do not know your family, or do you know me, but I'm quite sure that
Jack was the son of John and Ev Harrington of Russell, Ontario.
If so, I am Jack's father, John's, first cousin.  I come from Ottawa and
we were a very close family.  I think there were l6 cousins, and now only
3, my two sisters and I.  When you are going through such sadness, 
perhaps this is the wrong time to pass this on, if so please accept my

I just learned that one of my best friends passed away suddenly on Monday.
Jack Harrington who lived next door to us on Berkinshaw in Don Mills.
We went to kindergarten together at Norman Ingram public school.

He had a wonderful life, but his wife, kids and grandchildren will miss in dearly.

We lived right next door to each other, just across from the school and there
was a fabulous ravine-like park that all our backyards emptied out on. There
were huge trees and a pathway that ran all the way down to my Aunt 
Elizabeth’s.

I can still recall the day that my family pulled out of our Don Mills driveway
for the last time, on our way to Pickering and grade one at Brock Road.
I had tears in my eyes and so did Jack. Even my surrogate parents big John
and Eveyln Harrington were choking back their emotions, promising to always
have an extra bed during school holidays; a promise they kept and honoured
many times over.

Whenever I would visit my Aunt just down the path, Jack’s greeting would 
begin with “fantabulous!”

Jack and Bruce visited us as well, in Pickering where we mastered our front lawn 
golf course and at our cottage in Bala where the boys learned to swim.

I can’t be sure, but I think I can still recall Jack’s old phone number on Berkinshaw; 
444-4137. Some things you just never forget; like big John tucking us into bed
and including me in the good-night kisses. 

I had the honour of being a pallbearer when Jack’s mom Evelyn passed away.

Jack is a lot like his dad, he’s a man’s man, yet he is not afraid to display his
affections outwardly to his friends. Every year Jack and Teresa host not one,
but two Don Mills reunions. It’s like one big family to Jack....and you can feel the warmth
and the love, every time.

Most of the Don Mills kids had nicknames, like Rat, Twig, Flame, Bone etc and Jack was
Brain. Obviously meant as in a derogatory way, but it never bothered Jack in the least,
because he understood that it was a term of endearment.

When we were kids, I remember very clearly that Jack and I had a plan. Eventually we
would live together. 

Hopefully that day will come, for all of us and we will dwell in the House of the Lord
forever..........once Jack get’s the golf course, the pool and the barbecue set up for us.

Jack had that that wonderful gift of bringing so many people together, and judging by the outpouring at his funeral earlier today, he is still doing that, even in death. Jack was a pillar of strength, unfailing good humour and though he never took himself too seriously, he took  his friends' attentions and wants, some very idiosyncratic, very seriously. Let no one say that Jack ever stinted any person on their favourite  beverage, food or more importantly, he always lent a sympathetic ear. To someone, for whom friendship was so important, it may not be surprising, that Jack had such a full, rich, family and professional life, as well. I consider myself to have been one of the fortunate ones to have been in the right place, Don Mills, and right time, the 60's, to have known Jack. But no one could plan for someone like Jack. He leaves an enormous chasm that can not be filled. My condolences and sympathies to Theresa, their sons and families. It may be but a small consolation, to know that you are not alone.

Rest in Peace Mr. Jack Harrington. Jack was a great man. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband and professional cameraman.. Sometimes snapping that picture of you on your "ugly" side and showing it to everyone at the golf tournaments :p. Jack was one of the nicest most real person that I have been fortunate to grow up to know. He was always cracking jokes, making everyone smile, and typically showing off his grandchildren to the world. I will never forget growing up and going to the yearly pool party at the Harrington residence as a kid.  Jack will be very missed by myself and my family. He has done a lot for my father at the TRH Group and as a close friend. We will miss you Jack. <3 

Jack was my mentor and friend and he will be dearly missed.  My condolences to the family.  

I was so sad to hear about Jackie.  I will always remember his great big smile and his laugh.  

Jackie was a fixture in our home in Don Mills when we were kids.  He and my brother, Steve, Dave Mitchell, Jeff Brandom, and others were a force to be reckoned with.  They were always playing sports or cards or just horsing around. On rare occasions sisters were allowed to play rumoli or poker with them which was a special treat. 

I'm not sure who gave my brother the nickname 'Twig' but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Jackie And with that way he had about him, he would call my dad, Mr. Twig and my mother, Mrs.Twig which made them laugh. I was a shy kid but always felt comfortable with him and knew he would look out for me.  

I didn't see him much when we grew up but from time to time I would hear about his summer get togethers. It's a remarkable thing when someone knows the value of keeping childhood friendships alive. It meant a lot to me that he came to my parents' funerals. What a kind man he was and how lucky we were to have had him in our lives.

Jack was a very successful person.  He devoted himself to his family and friends and committed himself to being the best husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, son and friend that he could be.  Life was a celebration for Jack. He was honest and warm and he loved to laugh. If you happened to be in a very bad mood he provided great hugs. He was social, a great party planner and he sent many funny emails. We all know how he loved to golf.  He was also a talented and gifted photographer. I am not sure Jack knew how much we all cared for him -- he was too busy thinking of others to take the time to even consider himself. Jack was everything that a good person should be.

Hi Teresa and family. So sorry to hear about Jack. He will be greatly missed. As everyone has said, there is no more loyal friend than Jack. We have known each other since we were 3 years old. I have nothing but great memories of Jack and we went through a lot together growing up. Six or eight of us were inseparable for many many years. I have so many stories probably many that you haven't heard. Jack was always the peacemaker, the common bond between members of our group. We played so much hockey and all that tackle football with no equipment and other youthful craziness. It's amazing we didn't pay a bigger price. I'm so glad I got to see him one last time a couple weeks ago with all his family around. You have a great family. It was beautiful to see. I had never met your sons and families before. It was great to see him in his element with you all, especially the grandkids. He had been telling me about your trips to Gros Morne Park NFLD where I have been wanting to go too. My wife Susie and I both send our love to you all and may Jack still check in on you as often as you wish. His love and caring will never go.

 I was saddened to hear of Jack's passing. I send my heartfelt condolences to you all. May the lovely memories you have of Jack and all his beautiful pictures he was so proud of (many he shared with us at the office) help you through this difficult time. We will miss his whistling tunes, laughter and good humor. Jack has always been there to lend a helping hand and especially to welcome new comers to our organization and to find out if they needed anything - that was Jack. May he rest in peace.

My very favourite thing about Jack was that he was both loving and irreverently funny in the same breath, which meant he brought laughter and warmth everywhere he went - especially when he was around kids. He just seemed to understand them better than any other adult in the room. I’ll miss his huge smile, his unique eloquence and his joyful embrace of life. He is so loved because he loved so well.

So shocked and so very sad to hear of Jacks passing...a truly wonderful man, and a great loss to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.  Gaye..or as Jack nicknamed me in high school "stubbs".   















My sincere and heartfelt hugs to all of you.  Stay close to Mom(Teresa) she is going to need you all around her.  Teresa no wards can explain the feelings at time of loss, but I understand fully!!  My heart goes out to you !!! Please take care of yourselves and make sure you eat well.  You need your strength to get through this.  
May God receive Jack with open arms, give him shelter and light his way in his new life. May be be comforted knowing he is in good hands now, with God and his son Jesus at his side forever.

Jack was unfailingly good-humored, kind, genuine, welcoming--the list of his good qualities could go on and on.
The parties at the homes of Jack and Theresa brought together a core of family and friends but invariably there were some surprise additions, people tracked down by Jack who many of us had not seen for years and sometimes decades.
It was Jack who kept us together, when many of us could have drifted apart.
His absence will be more keenly missed than he could ever have known.
Theresa, Keith and Brian and their families had the privilege of being loved by a good man for far too short a time.

So sad and shocked to hear that Jack has passed...our office will not be the same without him walking down the hallway whistling or singing a tune...or just being his upbeat self...Jack had time for everyone....people who called needing advise re health and safety, etc. and was very kind to everyone. We will miss him taking all the photos for the company functions...I will miss him very much. RIP Jack...Vicki

I don't think the words even exist to express what a loss this is. Though we hadn't seen Jack or the family much in recent years, we will always think of him as one of the most truly kind, good, and loving people we have ever had the honour to have known. Our sincerest condolences to the family and all who loved him. I know we did. He gave the best hugs ever.

Dear Theresa, Keith, Brian, and all family and friends,

I remember Jack would always find a way to welcome and include anyone entering a room or conversation.  He put great effort into helping people feel happy and at ease–his caring nature radiated.  I remember his laugh, how much he loved for others to join him in laughter and good cheer, his warmth and generosity.  He loved deeply and was deeply loved–a testament to a life well lived.

I wrote a poem, for all our healing:

Sun shines, its same bright grin
Clouds float by, careless whispers
A bird in a tree, 
Its song light and free.

How can they touch me,
How can they heal my spinning, 
How can they bring me together again?

Look, breathe in, listen,
Breathe out.
Know the wonders of nature
The wisdom they impart.
