On April 21, 2017, peacefully at home, surrounded by family and loved ones, at the age of 86, after a brief battle with cancer. Jim was the beloved younger son of Thelma and Douglas McVicar, brother of Bill (deceased) and grew up on Rusholme Rd. in Toronto. He met the love of his life Marilyn (Carter) at Bloor Collegiate where he was a star athlete and she a cheerleader, and they were married at age 21. They were married for 64 happy years and she predeceased him by 9 weeks - we know in our hearts that they are now reunited.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters and their families Lynne Crocker and Cindy Elliott and her husband Bob, his cherished grandchildren Robert and Jaclyn Crocker and Laura and Lindsay Elliott. Special thank you to his loyal caregiver Bernadette who helped he and Marilyn stay in their home.
Jim had a long and successful career as a Chartered Accountant (B.Comm., Queens University) and was a partner with KPMG for over 20 years. He truly loved his work but family came first and he was an amazing and patient father and grandfather, teaching his daughters to swim, golf and drive and showing his grandchildren how to lead an exemplary life. He was a champion curler and excellent golfer, and a Past President of the Thornhill Golf and Country Club. Jim suffered a stroke in 2001 but was an inspiration to all in his determination and positive attitude on how to live a happy and full life in spite of it. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 9:30am until the time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 10:30am at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St. (at Goulding, south of Steeles). Reception to follow at the funeral home. Interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
