It is with sadness that John's family announces his sudden passing on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016. Fortunately, he died on his own terms—at home, in his favourite chair, watching golf with Gail.
John was born in Guelph, Ontario, on November 29, 1921, to Nazar and Lucy Korkorian, who had emigrated from Armenia. He loved baseball, playing for teams in Guelph and St. Catharines before enlisting in the RCAF in 1942. In 2013 he was inducted into the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame.
Following his discharge in 1945 from the RCAF, he attended the University of Toronto, graduating in 1949. He entered the insurance business, and was instrumental in setting up Mass Insurance Brokers.
John was a long-time member of the Boulevard Club, the Turf Club at Woodbine, and Thornhill Golf and Country Club, where he transitioned skillfully from golf to his other passion, bridge. In recent years, John became hooked on duplicate bridge; he played three times in his last week. He loved music—particularly big band jazz and Frank Sinatra—and flowers. He and Gail enjoyed many winters on John's Island in Vero Beach, Florida.
John leaves behind his wife and best friend, Gail; his sons David (Terri) and Jack; his granddaughter Kallie and step-grandson Tyler; he is fondly remembered by the Kinsella family, Mark, Cynthia and granddaughters Erin and Keaton. Papa was the greatest fan of his three granddaughters, they kept him young. His Guelph family, sister-in-law, Bette Korkorian, and nephews, Rob (Dana) and Jeff (great nephew Braden) were also a special part of his life. Predeceased by his younger brother Albert.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Floras, Dr. Rebecca Stoller, and Dr. Joyce Lee for their wonderful care and friendship.
Funeral services will be private, a celebration of John's life will be held at a later date.
John would be happy to be thought of over a nice glass of wine, but for those seeking a more lasting remembrance, a donation to the Big Brothers and Sisters of Canada (or a charity of your choice) would be appreciated. Condolences www.rskane.ca.
