Linda Chen passed away peacefully with her family and friends by her side at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Stephen (59 years old), and her child Katherine (17 years old).
Born and raised in the coastal city of Xiamen, Linda grew up steeped in the rich literati traditions of the Fujian region. Her intellectual journey took her to Xi’an, the ancient capital of China, where she deepened her connection to her cultural roots before moving to Canada to pursue her Master’s degree in Systems Control at the University of Toronto.
Linda was a "unicorn" in every sense of the word. Professionally, she was a formidable Business Architect at Scotiabank, known for her systematic mind and her ability to navigate complex business challenges with perfectionist precision. She began her career as a programmer—a role that changed her life personally as well as professionally, as it was there that she met her devoted husband, Stephen Poon.
To those who worked with her, she was a highly capable professional. To those who knew her, she was a kindhearted person and loving mother. Linda was a rare blend of organized brilliance and caring warmth. She approached her work and life with a keen eye and a gentle grace.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnybrook Hospital for their compassionate care and empathy. Visitation will be held at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes, at 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill, ON, L3T 2C5. Funeral services will take place at St. Gabriel’s Parish, at 670 Sheppard Ave E, North York, ON M2K 3E6.
Linda will be remembered by a wide circle of family, friends, and colleagues who will miss her strength and lovely spirit.
