I was shocked and very saddened to recently come across Loretta's online obituary, and I would like to express my sincere condolences to her family and friends.  I first met Loretta around 1976 when we both worked at the IBM Computing Centre at 245 Consumers Road, and we were friends for a couple of years.  Her brother and sisters might remember me from that time.  I admired the way she had met life's challenges with determination and a wry sense of humour.  She was a sensitive and very caring person even as a young woman.  It's been more than 20 years since I left IBM, so it must have been in the early 1990's that I last talked to her at IBM (3500 Steeles), when she said words to the effect that you don't need to live in a mansion.  I think she meant that happiness in life comes not from the things you have, but from the relationships you have with your family and friends.  For that reason, it's comforting to know she had a wonderful family of her own, and that she was able to turn her love of gardening into a vocation with her partnership in LuxeLeaf Gardens. Loretta was one of those special people you just don't forget.

Loretta was always making things more beautiful: gardens for sure but also peoples' lives with her unconditional support…  She has filled our lives with so many great memories..  


To the family of Loretta Black, I am so deeply saddened  by this shocking news. 
Loretta and Lucy were referred to me many years ago. I have enjoyed working with them immensely. 
Loretta was so smart, hard working and very talented. Her visions have transformed my gardens over the years.
 I will remember Loretta's honesty, kindness and direct manner with me.  And yes, as others have mentioned her beautiful, friendly smile. 
Many will miss her.

Loretta let me borrow her desk at IBM when I first started (she was busy having Sandra at the time). Hopefully some of her perspective, perseverance and no-nonsense attitude rubbed off on me while sitting in her chair.  No matter what the event (wine-tasting classes, women's soccer, NY, etc.) the times were filled with stories and laughter.  Our ladies dinners will never be the same.

Hello..I am in shock at hearing the passing of Loretta. I worked at IBM and Bell Canada from 1975 until 1996. I worked with Loretta in the Project Management area. She taught me the basics of Project Management, and was so supportive of me. She was such a nice lady. She and Anna were so close. She had such energy and a passion for life. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She touched many lives and enriched them. My condolences to her family..... Dave (Rand)

Sending our deepest condolences to all those who loved and feel the lose of such a speciale  person . It is said that what one believes and feels on the inside is what manifests on the outside . This was  seen in every garden that Loretta designed and planted  with her caring touch .  Life begins in a garden and from the North to South , the East to West in all the gardens that Loretta has left to grow Loretta too will always grow . In our hearts , in our thoughts and in all our Vibrant Gardens . She is now making Heavenly gardens that much more Beautiful. Rest in peace in the Gardens of Heaven.

Of all my guests here at Sheridan Nurseries you were one of the smiliest and happiest. You were also very knowledgable and I really enjoyed talking plants with you, as well as everything else ! I always knew I didn't have to teleguest you for our special events, because I knew you'd always be there, and you'd always buy something. I was very fond of you, as I am Lucy, and we will all miss you here at the PSC. I'm sorry you never got to see our new site too. May your family find comfort; I'm so sad you are gone - you lit up all our lives. I hope you have found those few elusive plants I couldn't get you in Heaven, and that the gardening is less backbreaking up there ! With love and hugs,

40 years of this cherished friendship is rooted deep in my soul. I will forever yearn for more time with Loretta. Her compassion, wisdom, supportive encouragement has only intensified over the years. Always admired and respected for her zest for life and her dedication to her family. Her pride in them could be heard even when she spoke their names. I only knew Loretta as one of the wonderful gardeners who helped keep our garden beautiful in recent years. She was always willing to share her wealth of knowledge about plants and worked like a Trojan. My husband and I are so shocked and saddened to hear of her sudden passing. Our sincere condolences to all Loretta's family and friends. We will miss seeing her smiling face.
