A valued educator, she received her Honours Bachelor Degree in Physical and Health Education from the University of Toronto and a Masters Degree in Education from The State University of New York at Courtland. Her teaching career began in 1957 and spanned 35 years. As a respected Physical and Health Education teacher, a Vice-Principal in North York and as a teacher at the Faculty of Education in Toronto, she had a lasting influence on many. Margie retired in 1992. Her desire to learn and experience life took her to all parts of the globe. As part of this, her many interests included birdwatching, golfing, snow and water skiing. With an open-door policy, her cottage life was filled with fun, song and laughter. Margie had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way, she was a mentor to many and lived her life to the fullest. Her humour, even in her challenging times, never faded. She will be sorrily missed by her lifelong friend Lynda Brklacich, nephew Alan Haines, many cousins and friends.
The family wishes to offer a special thank you to the staff on 8West at North York General Hospital, who were so kind and compassionate during her final two weeks and to the staff from Bayshore, whose personal in-home care allowed her to stay in her home for the past two years.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge St., Thornhill. Visitation will be 11:30 am. Funeral services at 12:30 pm with Reception to follow. Burial will be on Friday, June 27 at 12:00 pm at Thornton Cemetery, Oshawa, ON.
