(nee Hansen)
Passed peacefully on October 6, 2014 in her 99th year. Reunited now with her loving husband Gunner and devoted son Michael. Born September 7, 1916 in Dyrby Denmark, she immigrated to Canada in 1929 at the age of 12, settling first in Milton, then Buttonville Ontario, where she was sent out to work on neighbourhood farms. So began her struggle and passion for an education. She is the last of her 1940 Nursing Class of Women's College Hospital, where she was awarded the Hamilton Pin for most popular student, by her peers. She was a nursing sister in World War 2, where her role was to accompany train loads of wounded soldiers returning from Europe, via Halifax. On May 12, 1945 she married Gunner, a Royal Canadian Airforce Flight Officer. They spent the next 37 years raising their three children. Marie will be greatly missed by her children Don and Susan. Loving and generous grandmother of Noah (Kara), Hailey (Jason), Dylan and Patrick. She lived long enough to meet and celebrate her great grandchildren Jack, Torben and Emmett. Her legacy is of love - unconditional. She is survived by her dear brother Niels. She is predeceased by her siblings John, Andy, Fred, Gerda, Betty and Stinne. Thank you to the wonderful caring staff at Chartwell Aurora Long Term Care, who offered Marie kindness at every turn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospital for Sick Children, Doctors Without Borders, or a charity of your choice.
Can't thank you enough Mom..
Love You Forever.
