IN THE CARE OF
Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes
Mary Qamar Farah, beloved of her children, John, Grace, Philip, and George, and their families, passed away in her sleep, January 16th, 2023, on her 103rd birthday.
She was admired, and will be fondly remembered, by all who knew her: from her hometown of Jerusalem; from Toronto, Canada, her adopted home since 1980; and from the U.S., Jordan, Syria, and other places of Palestinian Diaspora, where she had family, friends, or former students. Mary was a mathematics and English teacher for 25 years at several schools run by the United Nation Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees. She loved sharing memories of Palestine with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and singing old Arabic songs. A couple of the songs were poems composed for her by her late husband, Gregory Farah.
We are especially indebted to the staff of the Isabel and Arthur Meighen Manor, where Mary was lovingly cared for since 2018.
The commemoration of her life will be held on Thursday, January 19th, 11 a.m., at the St. George Orthodox Church, 9116 Bayview Ave., Richmond Hill.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to:
In Canada: Humanitarian-CJPME; OR the Salvation Army Meighen Health Center (donation cards will be provided at the memorial service, at the Church.
In the U.S.: UNRWA-USA.
