Mary Giovanna Di Giacomo-Sloane

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria (Mary) Giovanna Di Giacomo-Sloane, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and teacher. Mary was the devoted wife of Samuel Carlyle Sloane, and the cherished daughter of Lina Di Gregorio and Donato Di Giacomo. She was the loving sister of Domenic Di Giacomo and sister-in-law of Franca Gallucci.

Above all, Mary was a devoted mother to Daniel Sloane, Silvia Sloane, Angela Sloane, and Arman Mehrjoo. She was also a proud and loving grandmother to Olivia Sloane and Sofia Sloane, who brought her immense joy.

Mary was a cherished aunt to Alessandra Di Giacomo, John Di Giacomo, Wendy Edmeades, and Chris Edmeades, and held a special place in the hearts of her extended family.

For more than 30 years, Mary dedicated herself to teaching at Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless students and families. She was deeply loved and respected by her students, colleagues, and the wider school community. Her dedication to teaching reflected the kindness, patience, and compassion she carried throughout her life.

Mary will be remembered not only for the many lives she influenced as an educator, but for the love she gave so generously to her family and those around her. Her warmth, strength, and presence will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, former students, colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 4pm-8pm at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home Thornhill, 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill. A mass celebrating her beautiful life and legacy will follow on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 10am. at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church,14 Highgate Dr, Markham, Ontario. Entombment at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 8361 Yonge St, Thornhill, Ontario.
