It is with great sadness that we let you know about the loss of our Dad, Murdo Kemp, who passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the age of 90. He was married to our Mom, Rosalie, the love of his life, for 62 years before she passed in June 2022. He leaves behind his four children, John (Liza), Carol-Ann, Melanie (Roger), and Ryan, along with his 4 grandchildren, Callum, Madison, Emily, and Alyssa.
Dad was born and raised in Toronto. He was born to Robert and Murdina and grew up with his five brothers and sisters, Ann (Doug), John (Liz), Victor (Camille), Margaret (Cam), and Donald.
We thank our Dad for the example he left us in so many ways, but mostly we thank him for loving our Mom so devotedly. They were partners and friends who were a team in everything. They took care of each other first so that they could then care for us. Dad and Mom also shared a faith and love for their Creator, Jehovah God, whom Dad loyally worshipped for 53 years until his death. He always took comfort in the hope that one day he would return to life on a beautiful paradise earth with his loved ones. Theirs was the perfect love story.
If you knew our Dad you wouldn’t soon forget his sense of humour or quick wit. He was a force of nature. He loved to have fun. He loved people. Dad also loved to learn. At his heart he was a teacher and loved teaching others about the Bible, something he devoted his life to. Dad worked in construction, mostly in downtown Toronto. He was a perfectionist and when he referred to a quality job, he would say it was “just like downtown.” Dad loved music and singing along to his favourite songs. It’s something he enjoyed as a child growing up with his family surrounded by music. In the later stages of Alzheimer’s, it was music that kept him singing, engaged him, and in his final years, calmed him. As a father he always had some adventure to take you on. He loved car drives to talk, or a cup of tea to spend time together. He taught us the importance of family, of helping others, to be generous with our time and skills, and to never give up.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all the nurses and staff at Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital (LSSW) who cared for our Dad over the past almost 8 years. Their extraordinary care, gentle touch, and loving manner will not be forgotten.
We will be hosting a celebration of Dad’s life at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill from 1-4pm on Saturday, February 24, 2024. A Memorial Service will be held in the next few weeks. Please contact the family for details. In lieu of flowers, we request that you donate to the Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation or JW.org in our Dad's name.
