With great sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Orlando Chi-Kin Lo, on February 25, 2023 at Mackenzie Health Hospital Richmond Hill at the age of 79. Orlando was born on February 18, 1944 in Macao because his family fled the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong during World War II. His family returned to Hong Kong after the war and at the age of 16 where Orlando apprenticed at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company, (PMM). Some of his most formative memories and relationships of work were established working at PMM.
Orlando went on to work for PMM’s clients, Sworn Measures as Accountant, the highest-ranking role held by non-British employees at the time. Orlando was well respected. He was an avid member of the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club (RHKJC) and loved studying the sport.
The family immigrated to Canada in 1977 to pursue a life for his family. Orlando had a number of lucrative opportunities during his career which he declined because he valued his family above professional achievements. In Canada he worked for the City of Toronto for 20 years and finished his career as the Director of Accounting.
Orlando learned and loved golf and ballroom dancing with Mary. He and Mary are active members of the Toronto Chinese Methodist Church (TCMC) and worked diligently on initiatives such as the Visa student support program. He believed in helping others.
In summary Orlando devoted his life to serving and prioritizing his family’s needs over his. For his family, he was the ultimate testimony of Christ’s love. He willingly gave to his wife, family, friends, and invited newcomers to celebrate holidays with his family.
Orlando, husband of Mary 52 years, is dearly and deeply missed by his son Douglas (Emily), daughter Ivy, and grandchildren, Isaak, Nathaniel and Sarah. We have assurance that we will see him again.
In-lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Toronto Chinese Methodist Church.
Orlando’s family would like to thank the staff at Mackenzie Health Hospital Richmond Hill for their compassionate care.
