

Bob - Peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2007 at the Toronto East General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ellen. Loved and respected by his children Peter, Phillip, Francis, Mark, Ellen, Dennis, Timothy and Anna; his daughters-in-law Colette, Michele, Carla, Theresa and sons-in-law James McCann, and Kevin Matsuba. Loving "Poppa" of Robert, Brigitte, Brendan, Dominique, Michael, Matthew, Katlyn, Rebecca, Paul, Thomas, Luke, Bradley, Daniel, Margaret, Mark, Benjamin, Patrick, Nicholas, Sarah and Emily. They will miss his love and support. Robert was born and educated in Toronto, attending St. Michael's College School and York University. He served in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War. His career included positions as the General Manager of the Toronto Housing Authority and the Director of Community Relations for the Ontario Ministry of Housing. He served as a trustee for Separate School supporters of the North York Board of Education from the time the North York Board was formed in 1954 until 1987. His time on the North York Board included serving as Chairman for the 1960-61 term. Robert was also the founder of the Canadian Vocational Association and served as its President from 1955 to 1960. He was the Chairman of the Board of Governors of George Brown College from 1976 to 1983. In 1988 Robert was elected to the North York City Council and served on council until 1992. Robert or "Bob" received the Award of Merit from the Metro Toronto Separate School Board in 1981. In 1981, he was also awarded the Order of Canada for his work in Education and Public Housing. In 2000, he was appointed to the Canadian Citizenship Court and enjoyed his duties presenting new Canadians with their Certificates of Canadian Citizenship. Special thanks to the staff at the Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence and Toronto East General Hospital. Friends may call on Friday, March 2, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church(670 Sheppard Avenue East). Reception at the Parish Hall immediately thereafter. Private interment will follow.
