

Surrounded by his loving family, Thomas Michael Callaghan, was taken into the hands of our Lord on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 95 years of age at North York General Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Marie Gertrude Callaghan (nee Elliott). Cherished father of Ann-Marie Ash (the late Henry), Mary Bulpit (the late Donald), Rosemary Adam, Lucy Schnaider, Peter Callaghan (Sue), Gerald Callaghan (Anne), Margaret Fraser (Tom) and Patrick Callaghan (Jennifer). Treasured grandfather of Joanna, Lisa (Greg), Becky (Gregg), Sean (Lina), Colleen, Lawrence (Liz), Kathleen, Melissa, Angela (Chris), Christopher (Karen), Heather (Garett), Lisa, Christian, Samantha, Amanda, Shawna (Adam), Michelle, the late Jeffrey, Matthew, Kathryn, Emily, Elizabeth, Riley and Rory. Specially loved by great-grandchildren Kaidan, Zoe, Ava, Cody, Hanna, Sophie, Owen, Tayen, Kallan, Wren, Sebastian, Saige, Madison and Jayden. Tom was the eldest child of Duncan and Anne (nee MacKinnon) Callaghan and will be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters: Rose Deans, Duncan (Eleanor), Anne Jackson, Joseph, Neil (Lorna) and predeceased by his siblings: Babe (Elsie), Charlotte, John Deans, Johnny Callaghan (Joan), Jackie Callaghan, Lawrie Jackson and Peter. He supported and maintained loving relationships with his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and will be missed by all.
Tom was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Parish for 80 years. He dedicated his life to family, the church and his community. Tom was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a Cub and Scout Leader and for years supported the work of the Good Sheppard Ministries. He had a great love of nature and the outdoors, which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He took great pride in his garden and shared its produce generously. He lit up whenever his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were with him. He gave the great gift of himself to all those who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2017 and Monday, February 20, 2017 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St., at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church (75 Churchill Ave.). Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (www.cysticfibrosis.ca) or St. Edward the Confessor Parish.
