Retired Platoon Chief Tim Algar

After 41 years of dedicated service, Tim retired from Toronto Fire Services on October 31, 2024. He was the definition of what it meant to be a Toronto Fire Fighter. Throughout his career, he touched countless lives. Professionally, Tim was simply the best. He was dedicated, proficient, patient, fearless, and compassionate. He was respected by everyone he worked with, at every rank, because of his leadership, integrity, and presence. Tim was meticulous, proud of his work, and was always able to make you smile.

Above all, Tim’s greatest devotion was to his family. The love he had for Sharon was unmatched, and when their family grew, that same love poured into his sons, their wives and his beautiful grandchildren. His grandchildren were, without a doubt, always the wallpaper on his phone. A perfect reminder of how deeply proud and devoted he was to them. Tim cherished the time he spent travelling to and from the arenas, sharing stories, learning about their lives, and building beautiful relationships with the youngest loves of his life.

Sports were a big part of Tim’s world. If you called him during a Toronto Maple Leafs or Seattle Seahawks game, you better have a good reason. Tim opened his home to billet a Barrie Colts hockey player, who remains an important part of his family. Tim passionately coached his sons’ hockey and lacrosse teams throughout their childhoods. As a coach, Tim gave his players his time, expertise and invaluable lessons in respect, dedication and commitment.

Tim leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, laughter, and love. The world lost a truly remarkable person. Tim was predeceased by his parents Ruth and Robert Algar. Tim is survived by his loving wife Sharon (nee Boyd), sons Ryan (Stephanie) and Andy (Nikki), grandchildren Quinn, Tanner and Paige, Mom and Dad Pat and Bert Boyd, siblings Terry (Dorothy) Algar, Sandy (Gord) Blenkhorn, Christine (Colin) Fitzpatrick, Ron (Charmaine) Reed, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home Thornhill, 8088 Yonge Street, Thornhill. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 11 am at Bayview Glen Alliance Church, 300 Steeles Avenue East, Thornhill.

Rest peacefully Tim. You will be deeply missed, forever respected, and never ever forgotten.
