I had the privilege of meeting Ginny and Don through my cousin Robin while on vacation in Toronto. Don and Ginny took Robin and I to Stratford to see Twelfth Night with Brian Dennehy.  I was struck by Ginny's warmth, grace, sense of style and love of life.  It was easy to become friends with Ginny as she was so welcoming and lovely.

My sincere condolences Don on the passing of your dear Mom. I hope your mutual love , support and shared memories will help ease your loss during this difficult time.  May Ginny rest in peace.

I remember Ms. Smith as my friend Andrew's mother, but she was also a welcoming, funny, and caring lady who had a knack for making me feel special too.  I spent countless hours at the Smith's home and cottage as a teenager and a young adult and I always felt welcome; those were always happy places for me and I understood how Virginia and Leon helped make it so.  Moreover, I genuinely enjoyed Mr. and Mrs. Smith's company in too many ways to recount. 

Not long before I learned of Virginia's passing I shared a sentiment with my daughters: I hope they grow up to have friendships as deep and meaningful and enduring as I have been blessed with.  I think of Virginia and Leon as intrinsic to my friendship with Andrew and I will always think very fondly of both of them.   May they rest in peace together.  

Virginia and her husband Leon were very special people to me. Spending time at their cottage near Bobcaygeon, teaching me to cross-country ski, inviting me to join the family for Christmas dinners,  going to the theatre are among the many wonderful memories I have of them.

 After he died, she and I continued our friendship.  She loved reading and  travelling.  She even invited me to accompany her to Kenya and Tanzania.  For me, it was a trip of a lifetime; though for her that trip, which she had taken before, gave her a sense of fulfillment.

Her sons were an important part of her life and she loved them all.  Don did his best to care for her and was a constant at the end.  Her PSWs became part of her new family.  I hope Virginia is now at peace with Leon.



“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matt 11: 28 to 30.

As a teenager I spent a lot of time at the Smith’s house playing ping pong and watching hockey with Andrew and the guys! We even were known to sample some of Mr. Smith’s home brew! Many weekends we spent at their cottage. Leon and Virginia Smith were salt of the earth people and welcomed me as if I was one of there own! I  have many fond memories of them. 

The last time I saw Mrs. Smith was at Sunnybrook Hospital about 6 years ago. I was at the hospital as part of my job and ran into Don and Mrs. Smith. We had a chance to catch up a bit and she was the same lovely and beautiful person. She always asked about my Wife Kim and our children. 

She will be missed but never forgotten. Our prayer is that she is reunited with her husband Leon and they are both with the Lord.

It made me feel better posting and sharing Mama’s videos. It was a beautiful memories we had , she loves music, she loves to hear different books of stories to read with me and watching her favorite show Mrs Jessica    Fletcher , An American television series “Murder She Wrote”.  Oh, I miss her all the time every time I watched her videos makes me feel like I’m keeping her spirit alive. 

My relationship to Mrs. VIRGINIA SMITH, started when I  became her PSW. I called her Mama which means mother.
We used to eat together in the morning and telling secrets ,and even frustrations at work and family.
She's a beautiful lady inside and out. She's nice,kind,generous,warm-hearted person. 
I treated her like my own mother. 
I will miss her calling gorgeous.  And believe it or not she will start to laughed everytime I called her that And hear her laughed makes me happy coz I know Mama still strong .
I thank Don for letting me calling and visiting Mama even I was not longer her PSW.
I know for sure that Mama was happy when she passed away because she died in her own home,big thanks to Don for that.
More than words I can say about Ginny.
Now more pain and she will be reunited with her husband and find happiness in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I trust that Mama is safe in the loving  arms of God and freed from suffering she endured for over years of kinds of sicknesses.  
My  sincere sympathy and condolences to Don and family of mama. May the Lord give you peace that surpasses all understanding. 🙏
