Bessie grow up on a farm and worked hard with her family to keep the farm operating, she shared memories of making soap from scratch. She often talked about how her and her sisters always walked together in a group when they went to school to be safe. Bessie graduated from high school, where she was a straight A Honor Student that excelled in math.
Bessie met and married the late Mandell Jones, Sr. in Longview, Texas. They moved to Denver, Colorado in the 1950’s after they had their third child. They ultimately had four beautiful children: Nelda Joyce Jones, Gyndia (Sue) Jones, Mandell Jones Jr., and Linda Annette Jones. Her children remember her as a wonderful, loving, caring, and generous person.
Bessie worked at Ridge Home for the mentally challenged, where she retired after 30 years of dedicated service. She was dedicated to her job and never called in sick and received numerous awards. In addition, Bessie worked with children in the Foster Care system. She often worked three jobs to provide for and take care of her children and grandchildren. Bessie loved everyone and got along well with her coworker’s everyone respected her and looked up to her.
Bessie loved to work in her yard and garden and loved to travel. She went on several cruises. She enjoyed studying and reading the Bible, and would often say, “God will take care of everything”.
She was very loving, caring, generous, kind, and a giving mother and grandmother. She also went out of her way to help her neighbors and anyone she met. She would give you anything you needed. Her favorite color was red; her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm.
She is survived by three children: Gyndia (Sue) Jones, Mandell (Marie) Jones Jr., and Linda Annette Jones; five grandchildren: Ahvedon Jones, Aaron Jones , Chantel Mitchel, Lorne Jones, Bianca Redifer; and two great grandchildren: Talliyah and Tylan Nelson; two sisters: Lula Mae King of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Sheila King of Longview, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
On Friday, February 21, 2020 Bessie departed this life surrounded by her loving family. Her message to her family would be, to respect and love each other and do your best at whatever you are pursuing.
